Show changes effected in sevier stake only surface of opportunities tuni ties touched in sevier valley dr widtsoe says irvin L warnock of sigurd was sustained as president of the sevier stake to succeed dr W eugene poulson when a reorganization was effected sunday under direction of dr john A widtsoe of the L D S council of twelve who represented the general church authorities W L warner wamer as first counselor and alten christensen as second counselor were sustained to serve with president warnock they succeed dr T R gledhill and frank M ogden the change necessitated the release le ase of the three new officers from the stake high council wendell N anderson hanmer E peterson and albert were sustained to fill the vacancies thus created in the council A reorganization ganza tion of the stake Y M M L J A of which mr anderson is superintendent will be effected later the richfield fourth ward bishopric was reorganized with C P P christensen as bishop talmage de lange first counselor and kenneth isbell second counselor the former bishopric consisted of bishop hanmer E peterson C P christensen and A W rowley bishop peterson had served for ten years and he and his counselors were accorded the appreciation of the ward explaining the decision of church leaders to rotate persons in office elder widtsoe made the statement the three men who are being released have served with integrity devotion and faithfulness and they go out with honor I 1 dont know of a thing in which they have failed president poulson spoke briefly approving the plan of rotating officers expressing appreciation to all with whom he has worked during his term as president and soliciting continued support for the new presidency his counselors president gledhill and president ogden and the members of the new presidency also gave short talks the conference was well attended at all sessions president poulson presided officers were presented by W A stake clerk A program of music was furnished by the stake choir directed by mrs otto L anderson with miss margaret poulson at the organ still still with thee the closing number by the choir was espee especially bally appealing H B mendenhall was soloist for this selection vocal solos during the i conference were by arthur baker and mrs lucille G davis president gledhill gave the opening address sunday morning discussing social security and personal activity A spirit of testimony characterized the talks given by other su sneakers eakers lyle peterson and gail hendrickson who rece recently antly returned from missions G R buchanan and J F de lange of the stake high council and continued on page 5 reorganization effected in sevier stake continued from page 1 president R D young of the manti temple president young a former president of the sevier stake and known as the father of the otter creek reservoir spoke of the great opportunities left for development in sevier valley if the people will unite 1 I am not here to judge I 1 am here to develop principles said elder widtsoe soe in urging church members to read the fiftieth section of the doctrine and covenants and to govern the things they do by a statement from the same book that which does not edify I 1 is not of god and is of darkness he spoke of tithing not only as a temporal law but as a great spiritual law that centers in the spirit of self conquest and in this view also he spoke of the word of wisdom referring to president youngs discourse he said we are forgetting that about us lies a desert comparable in its way to the desert of 1847 and that men with vision and faith can conquer that desert just as the pioneers conquered theirs we are still living only partly toward the fulfillment of sevier valley we begun to more than touch the surface of opportunities in my minds eye I 1 can see sec this population quadrupled everyone fed overy everybody body clothed and sheltered in urging people to stay with their farms he spoke of new discoveries co and new methods being advanced which point to a new day for the farmer concluding he said this church was founded on a vision keep us always visionary C 0 stott of the general church welfare department was a principal speaker at the saturday evening session which was devoted largely to welfare work M W smith directed community singing mrs W L warner stake Y W M L I 1 A president presided at the AT L I 1 A conference sunday evening the theme of which was built around the spiritual lives of george washington and abraham lincoln A statement from the outgoing presidency was read sunday afternoon by dr widtsoe soe showing the stake to be out of debt during the six years the retiring presidency has served the stake has paid the remaining indebtedness debt edness on the tabernacle and seminary building and has pur |
