Show lions hear health board reports natatorium improvements suggested discuss plans to honor drum corps in session monday evening at the johnston hotel the richfield lions club heard reports from officials f of the district branch of the utah state board of health with reference to work being done for crippled children chil dien and the program of immunization against disease dr eugene H silverstone silver stone reported that detective defective eyesight among children was quite prevalent and suggested that in some cases where parents are arc unable to provide glasses the lions club could well make a project of aiding dr Silvert sone also reported that the practice of painting school room windows was not conducive to good lighting in the rooms and contributed to eye defects A discussion brought out the thought that the lions might consider aiding a welfare project by contributing to the cost of securing glasses for some of the children most in need but that primarily the problem should be handled by the county welfare department and health council E D stewart sanitary engineer connected with the health office reported general sanitary requirements for swimming pools in the state making the observation that some pools are in bad condition he portrayed the picture strikingly when he said swimming pools should be considered no more than just big bath tubs which contribute to eye and ear infections spread of athletes foot and similar infectious diseases if they are not properly prop eily constructed and regulated he pointed out the necessity of a machine for use in chlorinating chlorina ting water and stated that richfield city officials have already considered the installation of such a machine at the city nata bonum speaking 0 of plans for remodeling the natatorium buildings destroyed by fire last spring he urged the need of improved construction st he displayed diagrams of ideal construction pointing out the advisability of having the walk and gallery for spectators entirely fenced off from the walk for swimmers entering the pool construction st that would necessitate swimmers walking under a shower and through a foot bath to get to the pool and other details that would make control from the sanitary standpoint easier A member of the city council in attendance at the meeting extended mr stewart an invitation to explain his diagrams to the city council ataleg at a regular meeting and assured him the city would be anxious to cooperate in plans that would be for the protection of the public J lerue ogden of the junior high school building committee reported the board of education had bad made no definite announcement that a building would be erected but that serious consideration is being given plans and possibilities of financing such a structure the club expressed general appreciation of the publicity given southern utah by J R hood and the richfield girls drum and bugle corps the president was authorized to appoint a committee to arrange some suitable entertainment in honor of jack and the gills git Is the club was entertained by johnson who sang two selections accompanying herself on the piano don E kenney club president presided at the meeting lew mar price introduced the health off officers who spoke |
