Show 0 0 0 gives rp ja coln t ga i we mrs stevens addresses richfield PT P T A on food values the richfield P T A held a regular meeting at the high school thursday evening of last week with mrs R D buchanan president in charge she was assisted d by mrs airs walter ogden in planning the program which consisted of two piano selections by wesley christensen and an interest interesting in address on general health and food questions by mrs hazel stevens nutritionist from the utah state board of health mrs airs stevens stated that from 40 to 50 per cent of the money earned by the average man is spent for food why then she asked should it not be considered carefully in order to get the most for the money spent continuing mrs airs stevens stated that some of our most nutritious foods are the least expensive whole grains are very nutritious and cost very little cabbage juice is a good source of vitamin C yet how many will spend money for more expensive sources and ignore the vegetable that they have grown themselves it pays to be food wise since we put so much money into food and get so much value out of properly prepared and selected foods mrs stevens recommended the following twelve point guide for proper nutrition 1 variety in kind and preparation 2 adhere to physical factors a regularity of meals b see that a happy mood prevails at meal time c get plenty of rest and exercise 3 one pint to one quart of milk should be had daily by the growing persons 4 three servings of vegetables daily one should be a leafy vegetable 5 two fruits daily some fruits and vegetables should be raw 6 A cereal every day for the growing child use a long cooked whole grain cereal 2 or 3 times a week 7 four glasses of water a day 8 A complete protein every clay for the growing child meat three or four times each week about five eggs a week complete proteins are meat poultry fish cheese milk eggs 9 A half pound of fat per person per week 10 one half pound of sugar per persons per week this rn means sugar that goes into desserts as well as on cereal 11 vitamin D foods for children in winter 12 iodine foods found in io dazed salt sea foods and vegetables grown in soil containing iodine |
