Show N ew game bird planted on sanctuary sportsmen Place 20 hungarian partridges on ground monday officers and members of the sevier county fish and game protective association monday planted 20 hungarian partridges on the sevier bird sanctuary between richfield and glenwood the birds were received from canada in trade for pheasants while not a great deal is known of the habits and living conditions of the new birds it is thought they will do well in this area they look very similar to a hen pheasant but in size are about midway between a quail and a pheasant they will average approximately 13 ounces when full grown the 20 birds planted monday are only a part of the number that will be received in the near future largely through the connections of dr frank low a trade was made with the canadian people whereby the local association will receive partridges for pheasants the pheasants have been shipped from the state game farm at springville Spring ville some years ago an effort to stock the birds in this valley was unsuccessful and it was thought the trouble was that not a sufficient number was planted and that they were scattered to much partridges mate and it is therefore necessary to have a considerable number to allow the females who do the chasing ch osing a wide choice game warden elwin cloward and major J al deweese wednesday tramped over the area where the birds were planted and found them to be in good condition and apparently thriving there will be no open season on them until they have increased sufficiently |
