Show D pioneer dies monday funeral to be held today tod ay for elizabeth salisbury Rich fields first milliner funeral services will be held at 2 this afternoon thursday in the first ward chapel for mrs elizabeth catherine iverson salisbury bur v 92 who passed quietly away monday morning at the home of her her daughter mrs G W blomquist mrs salisbury was a pioneer of sanpete San pete washington and sevier counties she was the first milliner in sevier county and many older residents remember her for the artistry she used in making hats from wheat straw and remaking hats adorning them with feathers flowers and other trimming her artistry found expression also in a wealth of beautiful handmade hand made netting with her daughters and granddaughters she has left eleven one piece dresses of handmade hand made netting that would be attractive in any formal ball room to her posterity she gave a heritage of artistic temperament one of her sons cornelius salisbury holding an enviable position among artists of utah and the western states mrs salisbury knew all the hardships and enterprises of pioneer life while in dixie she made all of the clothing for her family except shoes from cotton and wool that she corded spun and wove in exchange for service given by the tailor in cutting out her husbands suit she shaped hats for the tailor born in denmark may 3 1844 a daughter of jeppie and anna christana Christ cna iverson she immigrated to america in 1866 with her parents L D S church converts they crossed the plains by 0 ox team and she walked most of the way the family went from salt lake to mt pleasant and most of the time while they resided at mt alt pleasant she worked at provo at the age of 15 she was married to 0 K salisbury and they were called by church authorities to help settle dixie her husband was called to the missouri river to assist immigrant trains in crossing the plains and during the six x months of his absence her first children h ildren twin girls were born bom they moved to richfield in 1872 at the time the settlers were returning after the black hawk war and continued to make richfield their home after the death of her husband in 1920 mrs salisbury spent most of her time with her children during the past three years while staying with her daughter mrs blomquist she has been practically helpless and has required constant care mrs airs salisbury was for many of the relief years an active member society and with her husband spent several years working in the manti temple surviving are the following sons and daughters mrs airs amanda melinda Bioni blomquist quist richfield mrs elizabeth ca catherine therine andolin And clin los angeles 0 K M salisbury mantl manti isreal salisbury los angeles joseph E salisbury richfield richlie ld cornelius salisbury salt lake aaron salisbury los angeles and mrs celeste noyes los angeles four daughters preceded mrs salisbury in death the twins aileen ailcey christine and mrs olena H hannah annah perkins finsand kins sand and ella and anna who died in childhood mrs mn salisbury has 37 grandchildren and 44 great grce grandchildren one grandchild is 11 in china one in alaska and one in virginia while others reside in ut utah ah and california |
