Show 19 SITUATION STATE CAPITOL v p comments on direct interest L issues sues of to southern utah general interest to the people of this sect section 0 is the following letter in editor from E P to the reaper wayne wayne countes coun tys representative in the state legislature and worker for this section an ardent the state of desirous of 1 I have been very taking advantage of your offer afforded me in I 1 and opportunity the columns of your paper using legislative matters I 1 have for any discuss I 1 am now making a few to comments that I 1 think may be valuable to us as the people of utah which are embodied in the following you can appreciate the jam we nere hem with nearly four axe are in up P hundred bills before us many of which and rightly so should find their way to the waste basket through agh the sifting committee the a main bills that I 1 wish to comment on are the ones that dl di erectly atly effect us and are of para mount issue measures effecting industry CO commerce taxation utilities health etc are am among ong the measures of great moment and all citizens ti zens should be vitally interested in the same we legislators are m a maze of thought brought on by the sea of bills on which we must in our final analysis say yes or no we are buffeted every min w e think there might be a respite or br eating spell by lobbyists hobbyists from nearby but none from our section we have to pit our judgment alone against the many minds over which we must judge no wonder sometimes we make mistakes all preferential bills where they effect other than the group sponsoring should be looked upon with disfavor unless it is positively necessary to control or regulate some by legislative act also such bins bills that infringe upon the rights of people at large such a measure would be the basic science bill I 1 believe that all honest and siri sincere cere groups of physicians and surgeons should have a right to their field of operation and the people should have a right to the physician desired whether he be an M D osteopath chiropractor or what not as long as the results are as equally divided between those various groups of doctors I 1 think that a method that does docs not bring results in time dies of its own results and no legislation can tear down that which is good or that which is uplifting or conducive to health 1 I am very favorable to the plute irrigation project there Is nothing made for the state to remain in the same position it now occupies the state will continue to suffer the loss through lack of development of lands taxation etc and the land effected will remain unoccupied causing many people who would build up good homes to go into other forms of business while the liquor bill is not entirely behind us as passed by the house and senate I 1 hope that it will not take the form of sale by the drink we cannot go back to the old saloon days neither can we make a saloon of every hotel every restaurant and every eating house this is what would happen if such were the case As to the homestead exema I 1 hope in the final results we will have exemption that will be of assistance to the people yet one that will not throw the burden of taxation on so few people that it will mean intolerance to them if we could only take not more than 1000 make a trial of it for one year and if this operated alright the next legislature would very readily exempt to 2300 which I 1 hope can some day be done that people may occupy homes they can call their own and not have to worry about taxes to be paid upon the source from which there is no income 1 I believe that redistricting of utah as provided in the public health measure is going to react very favorably for the outlying districts and I 1 hope something will result from this bill we are in an adjusting period and the old seems hard to leave but the finger of progress the command forward demands an adjustment and whether we like it or not we are going to travel on a new road that will undoubtedly have many stones to remove and ruts to fill but the awakening will in the main be a pleasant one and the return to the old methods and days of privation of poverty plenty or pleasure shall have been forgotten in the new and better order of things it Is my hope that our forward looking citizens will react to many of these important measures and do their part in making them the best that can be possibly made mad e with the present limited human knowledge ow ledge |
