Show SCHOOL tentatively SET SE DATE OF MEETING southern utah teachers plan organization similar to civic clubs A meeting of the directors of the southern utah teachers association an organization of school teachers of iron washington garfield kane piute diute and beaver counties which was recently effected has been tentatively called for february 16 in richfield at this meeting it is believed that th the e sevier savier county teachers and possibly those from other counties will affiliate with the group the purpose is to lookout look out for the interests of the school teachers glenn E snow of paro par wan is president don E kenney in announcing tho the meeting said that he has been working with representatives of the association in salt lake city investigating the best methods of obtaining proper finances for district schools mr kenney was named chairman of the groups group legislative committee even though the sewer sevier county teachers have not yet joined the organization at the meeting here the teachers will decide definitely which bill before the legislature dealing with the school program they will support at present according to mr kenney the plan of dr J R af mahoney aboney which calls for s state bat funds sufficient to cover instructional administrative and equipment cos costs ts is favored the bill sponsored by senator hammond of grand county is also looked upon with favor but it may require a constitutional amendment before it can become effective this bill provides that each county make a 15 mill levy for school purposes and that the state furnish a 20 equalization fund this is expected to bring the total available fund in each district to approximately 80 per capita of school population senator hammond has made a thorough study of the school financing problem and is confident that his plan is the most feasible it is particularly noteworthy that his home county will not benefit by the change in explaining the organization of the southern utah teachers association mr kenney points out that it is along the same lines as the associated civic clubs two directors are elected from each county and these representatives will wih transact all business for their respective counties it is the plan to complete the organization throughout all of the 15 counties now embraced embr ased in the civic club or and then possibly affiliate with the civic clubs benjamin cameron jr pan duitch field representative of the associated civic clubs is act active ivein in the school association being a member of the legislative committee mr cameron is a former teacher at panguitch on his return from salt lake cit city y mr air kenney reported that much had been done to get the educational factors together to agree on the best program to support he also was highly enthusiastic about the work being done by representative elliot larsen from this district on school farm and labor matters mr larsen he said is a member of the house coalition which has 33 bemb members e rs although he has not deceived the publicity some of the other legislators have been so inter interested es ted in mr larsen laisen has gained the reputation of being a hard ahard worker and has accomplished a great deal of good with his committee work |
