Show SALT LAKE m ATT MEM MEETING OF CIVIC state legislators meet with associated civic clubs in capital after the meeting of the associated civic clubs of southern utah in salt lake city on friday and saturday the officers of the association felt that a great deal had been accomplished iri in the fight to gain statewide state wide recognition forthe for the southern part of the state not only did the directors take action on many business matters show the members of the state legislature how they work impress the officials of salt lake city with the effectiveness of the organization but they were highly entertained by the salt lake city chamber of commerce board of gov governors e enors and the salt lake tribune and telegram the first business session was held in the newhouse hotel friday evening and was attended by more than 50 members of the legislature and many other visitors saturday at noon the directors were vere the guests of the chamber governors at a luncheon and saturday night were entertained at a banquet by the tribune telegram papers at the hotel utah following the banquet the group adjourned to the chamber of commerce building as special guests and participated in the monthly membership dance during the friday night session one of the most important decisions reached was to have a bill introduced trod before the legislature asking that the state foreclose for close on the piute diute reservoir and canal project and then resell to the users at a fair and equitable figure to be based on an actual appraisal of the worth of the system and land under it in this connection the way was left open to allow millard and carbon counties to have similar water projects project i in those counties acted upon in the same manner if they so choose all three of the projects have not turned out to be as profitable to the owners as was contemplated r on at ed at the time of construction senator wilford day headed the committee reporting on the investigation ti of the projects and will continue to act in that capacity until the project is completed also concerning this immediate territory was a telegram from congressman abe murdock saying that the national park service contemplates making an early recommendation that wayne wonderland be made a national monument not a national park this he said was being done as certain cattle interests near the area still object to the establishment of a park in as much as the civic club has spent so much time trying to get the park the secretary was instructed ted to wire murdock to continue working for the park and monument as the latter does not carry a definite appropriation each year for improvement find and development work wayne county directors were instructed to make another investigation in the ahe county to determine the exact extent of the opposition to this move A further report rt of the status of the bill to divert ten per cent of the gasoline tax funds to use on city streets was made by president frank G martines who presided at the sessions sessio ns he said the organization had bad been successful in having the bill killed but that others may be presented and asked that the legislative committee continue to look out for them the civic club had long been on record favoring the continued use of the tax fund as at present until all main state highways ale aie completed to a high standard practically all the support for the bill came from the population ceni where should the diversion be made the bulk of the ten percent per cent would be used taxes and schools came in for considerable discussion A plan whereby children all over the state would receive equal educational advantages was favored and the legislative committee instructed to work to that end the legislative committee is composed of senator 0 C bowman chairman senators wilford day W 13 hammond and dan stevens 0 R N J barlow representatives muton milton twitchell and bent bryan definite action on a bill which it was said would seriously affect the development of alunite mines of piute diute county was halted when representative warwick Lamor lamoreaux Baux the author promised to withdraw the bill at the noon luncheon at the chamber of commerce mayor louis marcus extended the hospitality of salt lake city and british consul cyril H crane of san francisco spoke briefly on british american relations paul F keyser president of the chamber presided after working hard duding business sessions friday night saturday morning and afternoon the directors were given a bit of diversion at the saturday night banquet waide 11 condon sunday editor of the tribune was toastmaster and talks all limited to five minutes or less were given by governor henry H blood george D keyser salt lake city commissioner co ss ioner who represented mayor marcus dr george thomas president of the university of utah president Mart martines mes gus P bachman secretary of the salt lake city chamber of commerce
