Show associated civic clubs hold successful meetings to back road movements 1 delegates at milford confab set up program for the coming year I 1 TRI STATE PLAN officers of the associated civic clubs cluba of southern utah who returned to richfield from the two day session at milford brought back enthusiastic reports of the plans and program of the organization for the coming season many problems confronting southern utah and the adjoining states including road building and airmail route and development of the wayne county wonderlands wonder lands and the lehman caves region I 1 in nevada were considered by the delegates and plans were laid for obtaining more federal funds for the several projects the meetings were opened at 4 p m saturday with president frank G martines Mar lines of richfield presiding and closed sunday afternoon with a trip to le lehman caves in nevada twelve utah counties had official delegates at the meetings and one new county millard was admitted to bemb membership er the problems concerned mainly those of advertising the summer months the advertising program as presented by ray E carr and harry was accepted by the directors sunday and will be completed soon it consists of an eight page scenic folder advertising letter heads and newspaper advertising the vast expanse of land in the southern part of the state on which there is little population presented one of the major problems from the standpoint of meeting the expenses of development engineer wright of the state highway commission and B P finch of the public roads bureau informed the associated clubs that funds were not immediately available but that future possibilities were good it would then be a problem of coordinating road systems and deciding the order in which certain routes should lie be constructed Director george T Eckersley of wayne county asked th the e support of the clubs to have at least one C C C camp established in the wayne wonderland region this season he staid the camp stationed there last year had done valuable work in improving and building a road towards the boulder region and stated that much more remained to be done it was voted to assist in this and R H rutledge regional forester and robert H hinckley will be contacted zeke johnson custodian of the national bridges monument in san juan county who with others traveled miles to attean the meetings related the problems of the southeastern part of the state and advised as to how many of the hundred thousand people who annually visit that section could be drawn into other parts of the state he stated that san juan county covering the largest area of any utah county and having the least population wishes to join with the other clubs afi southern utah his county will ask the cooperation of the civic clubs in obtaining a road from that section into wayne wonderland which he says can be ba seen from san juan county but one must travel miles by a round about way to get there A 75 nille iro ad would fill this link he said recently he report reported id the C W A bad allotted for road work there and the state road commission will allot some IR anore bic toward chii needed highway high wiy 6 was div en ely nevada delegation wha are arc anxious to have a h hard ard murfa surfaced ed road built between ely and beaver to accommodate tourist travel doleh man caves A reports repart was waa also alm made on the projected air route between salt lake and arizona action on which is being temporarily suspended pending the settlement of the national airmail difficulties so many visitors were at milford for the meetings that the banquet on saturday evening had to be duplicated by another immediately afterward the next meeting will probably be held in sanpete county sometime in april |
