Show LIBRARY BOARD IN MEET ING NIGHT citizens urged to contribute used magazines new books ordered at a meeting me ng of the richfield public library libra oard board held at the library wednesday evening a means of adding ne new w books and more magazines to the library was discussed with the result that the board authorized the book committee and librarian to purchase ten modern modem books for the rental shelf in view of the fact that funds for magazine subscriptions are sot mot available the board thought it possible that in many homes current magazines are discarded that might well be contributed to the library the board board will greatly appreciate having persons person with such magazines available for the library notify a member of the board or of the richfield ritchfield study club whereupon school children will be delegated to visit the homes collect the magazines and take them to the library the librarian mrs lizzle lizzie magleby says the demand for magazines is su and that frequently she has to turn people away who ask aak to read magazines A book drive of some form will probably be conducted at a later date the need of childrens childre ies books at the library is especially felts felt such books as little men and little women having been repeatedly repaired and now worn beyond the possibility of repair many more modern modem books of interest to adults such as good earth have gone through the hands bands of a long line of readers and are crying for new books to relieve them from service it is is of interest to recall from the librarians report for 1933 published in january that the circulation cu of the library has ta ln creased from in 1932 to 16 in 1933 or an average of 55 books per day this is on the basis of five books per capita for the city of richfield during 1933 T books were added to the 11 arary by purchase gifts and fines of this number the american le r glon gion auxiliary donated junior and adult books as weir as aa many magazines but the ever increasing need of books is very apparent to persons visiting the library both the main room of the library and the basement have been redecorated recently as a C W A project making of the library a most inviting place for study A kindergarten is still being conducted in the basement of the library during the afternoons there were present at the meeting mrs C J sumner A J ashman and mrs W P payne of the book committee W B pace and orson christensen of the building committee mayor W L warner and the librarian |
