Show ay N IVI fin IS HUGE gov blood and congressman murdock enter nto into spirit of affairs governors day was the name given to the last day of the black hawk encampment and the crowds turned out in splendid style to pay their respects to governor go v henry H blood and congressman abe murdock who ad appeared on an nearly all of the various events on the programs and graciously responded to the requests with short talks these distinguished guests attended the horse races in the afternoon and gave short talks over the amplifying system which wh ic h was installed in the judges stand praising the citizens of this c community 0 m for their enterprise in p putting u t on such a successful encampment and expressing their pleasure at seeing the p people eople of utah at play after the perplexing per period everybody had been through through during the past few years the governor and congressman also gave addresses at the meeting in the tabernacle that evening governor blood paid high tribute to the noble pioneers and urged that every veteran of the walker and black hawk wars and pioneers of 1869 or earlier be asked to relate his early experiences and then have these all recorded correlated and carefully preserved for posterity the governor praised the people and the settling of the city of richfield congressman referred to the go governors vernor s address as a classic and he too paid his respects to the early pioneers who fought that their posterity might maintain a home under the american fla flag g he praised president roosevelt as the leader of a great war against depression and urged the people to get back of him in his plans for national economic recovery after this program governor blood and mr murdock attended the final bout of the boxing match at the armory and f from rom there the governor went to the old fashioned dances at the star pavilion where he and mrs blood led the quadrille much to the enjoyment nt of the dancers and spectators the final event on the days program for the governor was to visit the richfield natatorium and el capitan dance pavilion where they took part in the dancing and praised the municipal gardens plan of the city and civic committee according to H S christensen of the housing committee there were camps on the camp grounds of these being from spanish fork which was represented by people at the encampment there were 93 indian war veterans here mr christensen said if i was surprising how many of the visitors made the remark you just sent me to the best place in richfield so it was quite evident that there was a general feeling of appreciation for the hospitality of the richfield people t k Z W 1 I AV i GOV HENRY H BLOOD photo by tribune telegram |
