| Show STATE S AND COUNTY SOLONS CONFER ON HOW colton oddie money may secured for sevier canyon project the sevier county commissioners F G martines president 9 the et associated civic clubs southern utah james R ware monroe and J A christensen redmond members of the unemployment committee held a special meeting with the state road commissioners and J E garn gam district engineer tuesday evening at the county court ho house se t to 0 discuss road improvements for f r the coming winter and next summer in r the road program in con connection ec with the unemployment situation 1 I a in sevier county was discussed as were also the construction of a standard government highway through sevier canyon the glenwood dugway proposition and the completion of the oiling and graveling of the miles of road between elsinore EI and cove the road program to the extent of was discussed and approved in connection with the unemployment situation for sevier county and the work is expected to commence some time next week the state road commission reported that senator reed smoot had wired vired the budget department in n washington W is hington D C recommending t hat they raise the colton oddle oddie road budget from to in addition to the amount already appropriated last year so work under those projects could go forward it was discovered however that there will probably be a little difficulty in connection with the sevier canyon project owing to the fact that the entire distance is not public domain but that personally owned property to the extent of five or ten per cent would be traversed by the highway however the state road commission expects to clear up those small objections and gave the county commissioners a guarantee that if the colton oddie money can properly be applied to this stretch of road it will be one of the first jobs to receive assistance si the state road commission expressed their willingness and desire to pay their proportion on the finishing of the oiling and graveling of the state highway from elsinore EI to cove in discussing the glenwood dugway w ay proposition it was estimated that at the present time not enough money would be available to commence that project inasmuch as it is a big job and the cost would be prohibitive at present but it is hoped that before very long something can be done on that piece of road work commenced monday mom ing on the resurfacing of the state highway from the elsinore EI sugar factory corner south to monroe and extending to the west of the monroe city limits this work is being done b by y the utah state road commission and the money spent represents improvement funds set aside for secondary state highways monroe city is contributing to the work within the city limits to the extent of 1000 at present from 40 to 50 men and teanis teams are working on this project as well as some single hands very shortly the commissioners p plan ian to start work in other parts of the county to help relieve the unemployment situation the county commissioners are very well pleased with the cooperation they are getting from the state road commission and the state road commission expressed themselves as being likewise pleased with the cooperation they receive from sevier county |
