Show E ider elder soon to return from british mission devon Y stewart of venice now laboring in the british mission announces his early release and return to utah in a letter to the reaper reading in part as follows I 1 am just on the verge of ending my mission here in great britian so I 1 am tak taki taking i this 0 opportunity to thank you for sending me the richfield rich field reaper which has reached me weekly since I 1 landed in great britain nearly two years ago I 1 assure you that I 1 have greatly appreciated receiving the home paper which has been a great companion and has been the means of keeping me in touch with what has been going on at home I 1 can truly say that it has been a mighty welcome weekly guest although I 1 have had one permanent a address that of birmingham I 1 have had the opportunity of laboring in the southern part of england and in various parts of scotland I 1 am at present in the city of edinburgh which wn hi ch is IS i the capital of scotland and incidentally is one of the most beautiful cities I 1 have had the opportunity of visiting I 1 believe if it had to be that I 1 had bad to live in great britain the remainder of my life that I 1 would readily choose scotland my reasons being that I 1 have found the scotch people more hospitable and god fearing the cities cleaner and more modem and the climatic conditions better in regard to health I 1 believe it healthier because one meets up with a more healthy class of people than one finds in england another thing I 1 have found out about the scotch people is that they are not the ultra conservative people that they have the reputation of being the most peculiar thing about it is that right here in scotland is where most of the funny stories one hears about the scotchman originated whether or not it is meant for a purpose 1 I do n not 0 t know but it certainly proves beneficial as far as the tourist trade is concerned for many are the tourists that come to scotland just for the sake of satis satisfying curiosity england as well as scotland has a very beautiful landscape and holds many places of interest to the traveler indeed there are many pleasant things about the country but there are also some unpleasant ones the most consistent of which is the climate very V e ry few are the days that one ne is safe to go out without a raincoat rain for both england and scotland are noted for the drizzling rains that they have baa e and if it is not raining the atmosphere is so damps damp that ones clothes do not remain remain warm and dry for any length of time I 1 must say that although one travels the world over he will never find a place as ideal as utah let me thank both you and dr markus again for sending me the reaper and to assure you that I 1 appreciate your kindness I 1 expect to be leaving for home very soon now so I 1 hardly think it advisable to send any more copies of the paper to this address |
