Show the violin the king of all AH other instruments by J G hilgendorff considering that the present form and construction of the violin has been in use since the century it makes it an assured fact that it is and will ill remain the standard of all musical instruments st for the soloist as well as for performers in string i trios and in orchestras the violin has demonstrated its power to express the widest possible range of emotions an and i because of this violin artists and professional players will be far in in the majority over all other performers on any other instrument on the concert stage theater or over the radio through the instigation of college professors and musical directors a popular vote was recently cast in all parts of the united states by musical students resulting in a 31 per cent vote in favor of the violin the percentage of popular demand for all other musical instruments having been much less thus proving the ever present popularity of the violin and which according to all indications cat ions will continue to be the standard instrument for many gene generations rations to come all of this proves that the violin is worthy of the consideration of anyone who is seriously thinking about taking up the study of some musical instrument the younger the student the better because as when learning any other musical or educational subject the young mind is much more pliable and absorbs the subject at issue more readily than older persons an ideal time to begin the study of the violin would be during the summer school vacation because then there will be no other studies to distract the student and it is indeed true that undisturbed concentration must be exercised to acquire a solid foundation in the art of the first and important steps of proper position bowing and fingering those who study the art of violin playing usually ha have ave one of two ideals that of becoming a professional player or of learning for the sake of accomplishment which ever object may he be preferred the student must remember that patience persever ence and steady practice are the main nain requisites for success there is is no such thing as perfection in the art of violin playing because the greatest artists will admit that there is still much for them to learn this makes it so much more interesting and every even hour that is devoted to its study will vill not only be time well spent but will yield to the student an intense and growing pleasure |
