Show 0 SALINA by special correspondent J 0 0 0 honor missionaries ali for miss ruth who has just returned from froin a two year mission in canada vermont and maine Nl nine and miss mary iry herbert who was an instructor in the brigham schools the past year and who is leaving soon on a mission to the central states a joint homecoming and farewell fai ewell party was given at the second ward chapel thursday evening A program was given as follows congregational singing prayer E AV herbert reading rd mrs jesse thornell Th omell vocal solo J C jensen talk ruth vocal duet H F jensen and a n d G M burr talk mary mali herbert following the program dancing was enjoyed in the hall and at 1130 refreshments were served to neaily people W it ball team loses one and wins one wednesday of last week the salina baseball team went to nephi and played one of the most spectacular and interesting games this season the score at the end of the ninth being 7 to 8 in nophis favor the nephi players with i the their 1 i r heavy stickers and a longtime long time tim e organization had no walkaway walk val away kawa and not until the game ended were they safely on lead sunday afternoon on the local diamond the salina boys played the gunnison nine salina won by a score of 9 to 5 the gunnison boys played a good brand of ball but were 0 outclassed u t by the local team due to a questionable stealing of home base a flare up between betwee n the teams looked probable but outside of that the game was uneventful some time ago the ball team was presented new suits the great western salt co being the donor earl S wright manager of the company saw the dilapidated suits of the salina players and through his efforts the team was equipped with new suits 9 local and personal the officers of the first ward sunday school are planning a ward outing for sunday june 22 it at maple grove As N yet et no definite plans have been made but it is understood that a day clay of hiking games and lunching will be enjoyed in honor of mrs airs J C jensen president of the second ward relief society a birthday party was given tuesday afternoon in the ward chapel social entertainment and a program were enjoyed by over fifty members of the society and invited guests the ladies presented mrs airs jensen an anniversary gift and gave eulogies on the success of the society since slie she became president mr and mrs airs A C and daughter louise were salt lake city visitors monday and tuesday A J crosier of salt lake city is visiting friends in salina this week mr and mrs william bell and nerine nielson were marysvale Marys vale visitors sunday mr and mrs john R ewles and miss aliss edna dor domgaard agaard of this city fred arbogast of salt lake city and lee dark clark of coalville Co alville enjoyed a trip to the scenic wonders of southern utah sunday and monday mr and mrs airs lee bastian went to santaquin San sunday and were the guests of sir air and mra V S barsley they were accompanied home hoine by miss beth sorensen who had been visiting at the barsley home since memorial day mr and mrs george monroe were carbon county visitors the first part of this week they were the guests of mr and mrs james monroe I 1 mr and mis J G hilgendorff of richfield were guests at the jun juno C webb home friday afternoon legrande blaik of coalville Co alville and fled fied arbogast Albo gast of salt lake city were salina visitors over the weekend while here they were the guests of mr air and mrs airs john R E ewles ales mrs othello madsen was hostess h os monday afternoon to eighteen guests who helped to celebrate her birthday anniversary at 4 30 a delicious hot dinner was served on a large table centered with pink peonies miss ruth mattsson miss mary mattsson 3 and howard brandt accompanied compa nied by mrs airs F A mattsson anti and small daughter blanch arrived home wednesday from logan where they have been attending school the past winter mrs airs mattsson had gone to logan the previous weekend to attend the graduation exercises at the college her daughter mary being among the graduates mrs airs marinda of salt lake city 1 who has been visiting her parents mr air and mrs M rs H E lewis of this city the past week returned to her home sunday evening miss jewel miss bell webb and raymond dahl brude of this city and J D lillywhite w hite of provo spent sunday at the experiment station in soldiers canyon gordon monroe son of mr and mrs airs james monroe an employee of the westinghouse hous e electric co of sharon pennsylvania is visiting his parents this week mr air and mrs airs lee bastian left today to spend the summer on the ranch on gooseberry lynn nielson Nic lson accompanied by miss elaine thompson and mr and mrs W W thompson of audora arrived home saturday from salt lake city where he attended the U of U katherine katherinc daughter of mr air and mrs airs J B stark of this city has been a guest the past week of her grandparents mr air and mrs airs G smith of salt lake city |
