Show PAUL POULSON 5 NOTED PION I 1 Is LAID to BEST large attendance at funeral services 1 slark mark esteem or departed patriarch funeral services for paul poul poulson ron an indian war veteran and a man prominent in tile the early development of Ri richfield clifield who passed away day of last 1 ast week at the home of his son soil jas P with whom he has lived the past two years were held monday afternoon in the first w ward ard chapel bishop F M ogden officiated the choir sang the pioneer hymn come come ye saints mrs lizzie hansen at the organ and W L castleton directing dir acting bishop H J hansen offered the invocation and following another number by the choir N P peterson who immigrated to america at the same time as did paul poulson gave a biographical sketch and related incidents in the life of the hardy pioneer mrs vern blomquist sang gods gift mrs anna callaway acting as accompanist president R D young spoke of the decease ds long time of service sen ice his earnestness his integrity and his seriousness bishop ogden recalled incidents in the life of the pioneer the choir sang the concluding number and president tas jas M peterson pronounced the benediction benediction the high priests quorum of the stake attended the services in a body and members of the quorum A G young jas B ramsay jas B morrison joseph ogden geo da M jones and john H ence acted as pall bearers grandchildren of the deceased carried the beautiful floral offerings interment took place in the city cemetery A G young dedicated the grave I 1 paul poulson was born bom at weiby denmark september 19 1845 on january 28 1862 lie he was baptized and confirmed a member of the L D S church and on april 4 of that I 1 year he be and his mother two brothers and a sister left their native land to come to utah A younger brother niels came to america later accompanying paul poulson home flom his mission to denmark but the father never left his native land Meni membris beis of the family who immigrated left hamburg in the sailing vessel franklin april 15 1862 while making the voyage measles broke out among passengers on the ship and boitt eight eight deaths resulted it was may mav 29 IS 1862 when they arrived in new york until june 9 they were held in quarantine the trip to missouri was made on the train and from there the family walked all the way across tile the plains to utah they settled first in pleasant glove then in gunnison and in the spring of 1865 came to richfield clifield Ri mr poulson assisted in digging the richfield canal with a shovel at a time when drinking wat water er for the workmen had to be hauled from the river he assisted in numerous other pioneer enterprises in a civic capacity lie he was active serving in the city council three years and for one term on the school board in 1877 he was chosen bishop of the first ward in wa which I 1 ich capacity he served seventeen years when the two richfield wards were united he was selected counselor to bishop theodore theodoe brandley he S served as high councilman ten years a as patriarch twenty nine years as sunday school superintendent ahlee years vears and also as a member of the take stake tabernacle committee his marriage to anna maria christensen took place august 24 4 1872 on october 21 2 1879 lie he married olena olelia poulson and on march 11 1887 lie he was married to maria davidson surviving abc a widow and tile the following children jas P arthur henry henn 0 and J milton poulson all of Ri richfield clifield ammon W and ezra poulson of salt lake city mrs enna mays mrs dorthella mrs ellen fitton and sylvan poulson all of cotton colton california forty four grandchildren and six six great grandchildren survive all of his biot bi others bers and sisters preceded mr poulson in death |
