Show LAMB FEEDING ON A scientific BASIS our neighbors to the south the people of the city of monoe had a gala day wednesday of last week when hen in connection with the second lamb feeders day of the present feeding season results were announced of the feeding experiment conducted at the alma magleby ranch experiments in feeding have been conducted elsewhere before burnever but never hava they been done on such a large scale and subject to such scientific observations ions as they had been planned and executed in the monroe experiment station it was therefore 2 with the greatest interest that all those connected in any way with the lamb feeding industry feeders wool growers livestock dealers packing houses etc looked forward to results the things which have been demonstrated in the fir first fira A year of the experiment were interesting indeed we say demonstrated and avoid saying proven because it would be hardly scientific to make definite conclusions clu after one years experiment thanks ho however Never to we the efforts of the monroe lamb feeders association and the willingness of our agricultural college the agricultural experiment peri ment station and the extension division of the college to cooperate the feeding experiments will be con linued for several years and the men of science as well as those occupied with the practice of feeding will come to conclusions that will have an enormous influence on the entire industry y will change practices that by the experiment have been proven ineffective and introduce methods whereby best results as to gain of weight a most desirable carcas and best effects on the wool etc can be obtained at the lowest possible cost it will be proven conclusively whether green or cured alfalfa should be used in the feeding what ml mixtures natures of home grown grains should be fed to get results comparable M in cost and efficiency to those heretofore obtained by feeding corn whether and how much molasses should be used with the hay to some advantage whether the addition of some kelp an iodine containing sea plant would have a beneficial or detrimental influence and so on already lamb iamb feeding has become quite an industry in our county and nearly lambs have been fed here during the season just ended the experiments in feeding on scientific principles will have a tendency to make this industry still more extensive ten rive and more stable the monroe lamb feeders association and alma magleby who for the first year generously contributed place lambs and materials are to be complimented ted and thanked for their earnest and sincere efforts |
