Show information FOR TOURISTS news is being disseminated aiom the salt lake chamber of commerce comme ice that a definite policy to be followed by this organization in tourist routing arid and in giving load information i was formulated thursday day at a meeting 1 of the directors of the utah state automobile association with the board of governors of the chamber of commerce As pait of the plan the automobile association while still maintaining all branches of the service organized at the hotel utah will establish a bianch of its touring department apartment part ment at the chamber of commerce for the purpose of giving information I 1 to tourists and will accept all responsibility for the service which has heretofore been rendered both by the association arid and the chamber of commerce on commenting on oil the arrangement it is pointed out that there has been considerable trouble in utah in the past when one or one part of the state has accused the salt lake i outing service of discrimination because one road was recommended as better than another and E al M ashton president of the chamber of commerce said among other things we believe the past p policy in some sections of organized opposition to other sections seeking part of the touring travel is detrimental to the interests of the state as a whole the efforts of all communities should be one of friendly competition along with scenic or historic attractions communities may have to offer the tourist should be the service inducement this requires good hotels camp grounds garages and service se arvice stations with honest prices if local communities who are in an open competition oTi for touring travel would center their efforts along these lines it would go farther to induce our visitors to visit their sections grid and induce others to follow in their footsteps the spirit of good will is a better drawing card than vicious attacks I 1 against our competitors let us try I 1 out this plan in utah for the coming year and gentl nd the tourist home praising which orr er section of the state he may choose ao Yi visit sit we ceic in richfield anti and other sections of southern utah are well aware of past troubles ind the information ithac was given wt out and was discriminating against this apai t of the state i for f or purely personal reasons we ti therefore iti welcome she arrangement recently made between the chamber of commerce and the automobile mobile association because we trust in the fairness of the chamber we bave always alwaes maintained anti and still maintain that ye we do not no want any favors hut that we oppose discrimination we are able to offer all things that mr ashton is pointing out we offer along with scenic and historic attractions service bervice inducement good hotels camp grounds garage and service stations with honest prices we are centering our efforts along tha lines and in this way we are trying to induce visitors to to our section ec tion and to tell others about it so they may follow we agree with mr ashton that atiat this is is a better drawing card than vicious attacks against our competitors and may it ft be said in this connection that we never attacked our competitors but we made not an offensive but a defensive war against 1 one sigle man who N 0 was responsible for discriminating information to tourists it looks like the author of such information has reformed and we are taking notice of it with great satisfaction and if on the other hand reformation on our part is necessary we promise to reform also gentlemen of the chamber of commerce just give us a fair deal and we will prove to i you that we are fair and square also and we hope that this move of yours will make us great boosters boasters bo for the chamber of commerce as well as for the automobile association but show us fair fairness riess first |
