consisted of demonstrations st of the finest types type of horses in america including shetland ponies welsh ponies the arab horse the thoroughbred light harness horse a trotter a pacer the hackney clydes clyde dale shire belgium and suffolk the rage of the show was the demonstration of horsemanship in bearns were entered n this contest caal bac from froin the big backing institutions in in i this cou country ritty the horses in tha tai fains wore were at as nem alike a as tw pins pills Ilor horses ses wagons and other equipment made a very beautiful display the grand champion fat steer selected b by professor kilder of ed edinburgh iny scotland was raised and fed in california the animal was a beautiful specimen weighing 1055 pounds it was sold at public auction for per pound te animal was a halfbreed half breed shorthorn short horn hom and aberdeen angus the reserve champion was exhibited by dr W E caroll of tile the university of illinois the international hay grain an 1 seed show consisted of small grains and corn from all sections of the united states tile the average utah parson on would be impressed with the saying 9 corn to the left of you corn to the right of you corn to the front and rear and corn everywhere re uth was not as prominent in this show as in previous ems eai i A k lew exhibits 01 wheat oats and barley were there aiom salt lake county the exhibits of the various experiment stations in connection with the show was very verv interesting the exhibit of the united states department of occupied one building and demonstrated the fol pasture s seventh a self feeder for ho hos hogs s an and d a good many other things which did not apply to the intermountain country in with this show was a boys anti and gills ehi exhibit bit to a certain extent this was a disappointment because the exhibit in a county fair in utah would at least equal it in the potato section of this show I 1 observed a new potato known as the russett rural this was interesting to me and I 1 succeeded in securing one potato and the name and address of the grower of the bame in michigan while in the big windy city I 1 tool took in a gibat many of the sights including an automobile tour to all the parks of the city visited tile the field museum of Natt natural lial history and chicago art Mul museum eurn I 1 attended a couple of good shows the best one of which was the comic comic opera the desert song chicago is a city of three million people and boasts boast of the following banks cemeteries churches chuiches chu iches 94 club houses 10 convention halls 17 large department stores educational institutions 13 express companies 65 golf clubs ill hospitals hospital 81 largo large hotels 78 libraries SO 80 monuments 16 daily papers parks 41 police stations 32 freia lit ht depots and 29 passenger stations the city limits are 11 by 23 miles we enjoyed ourselves all of the time for the weather was respectable and the sun shone most of california the president of the ohio farm bureau federation reported that ili his organization took care of the marketing of livestock live stock grain automobile insurance fire insurance and cooperative projects of all of its members dr E B brossard of the tariff commission discussed the subject of Agli agriculture culture and tile the tariff the two outstanding addresses were the american farm home by mrs nellie T ross former governor of wyoming and the place of agriculture in our national defense by general john J pershing A admittance to the pershing lecture was by tickets of officers took place very quietly president sam H thompson the present executive was reelected elected re and I 1 mr edward kneir vice president was reelected elected re the convention went forward with great dispatch under the IL leadership ader ship ot of mr air winder mr kirkham was everywhere present with his excellent community singing and iipp convention was harmonious IOUs throughout and
