| Show some after election thoughts the election is over the excitement down and the people of the united states those who during the past few months were busily engaged in politics included are settling down to business again sevier county had its share of the excitement but now the returns are complete everybody knows what happened and to whom it happened and with this knowledge sufficiently digested the coming J check to be distria it jf this eek ek bore attention than a rehash of the political news however we ae consider it not entirely amiss to say a few words about the results sevier county is reputed to be a republican county only when president wilson was elected in the democratic landslide of 1916 the majority of our county and district officers were democrats since then the prodigal son has returned to partake of fathers fatted batted calf and did it again this year and a look at the results dis J closes that the people chose wisely as they chose we are glad to state that the people elected men who are fully qualified to fill their respective positions which of course was this time quite easy because both parties had unusually good tickets in the field on account of this fact the campaign in our county was a real dignified one without the usual mud slinging and leaving hardly any bitter taste in the mouth of those who were not elected while the the republicans were victorious in every respect there was one exception in the finals this being in the case of the highest position the voters have to decide upon in the state that of governor governor Gov einor charles E R mabey was defeated by tho the democratic candidate geo H dern and sevier county contributed to tile the states verdict by giving a plurality to mr dern over sir mr mabey we congratulate mr dern to his victory mot heartily bear tily and have no doubt that ho he has the ability to administer the affairs of the state wisely and manly As to governor mabey we gladly subscribe to tile the statement made editors ly by one of the daily papers of the st state ditc itc that governor mabey retires to private life with a clean record as a public official and with the proud consciousness of having performed his duty as he saw it that he did not get the majority of sevier county votes is to be attributed solely to the fact that lie he did not see things in our county the alie way our people had the tight light to expect lie he would see it |
