| Show FOREST FIRE SITUATION IN UTAH SHOWS improvement A considerable drop in the number and destructiveness of forest fires in utah is noted in reports from all supervisors covering the first ten days in september just received by district forester R H rutledge these show that in utah there have been only nine fires upon nati national onal forest land during the period and only acres have been burned over five of these fires occurred on the ashley forest north of the uintah ba basin sill the total tor for the season in utah now stands 76 fires which have burned over 2921 acres ot national forest land the small acreage burned over is due primarily to the degree of protection offered b the forest service as ninny many thousand acres of public domain h have ave have burned over not only in the more inaccessible regions but even close to the centers of population as in the oquirrh mountains and the ranges between salt lake and ogden which are not within any national forest the reports show that in the entire intermountain district convictions have been secured on account of man made fires this is out of a total of fires of this class a much higher record of convictions vict ions than has ever been secured heretofore while conditions are much fill improved in utah a serious situation still exists in idaho where during the past ten days t there here have been 78 new fires which have burned 0 ver over a total 0 of f nearly acres |
