| Show BOLY DAMAGED IN NIGHT FLIGHT I 1 TAKEOFF TIE TAKE OFF in response to a phone call thursday night from mr kenneth of salt lake city aviator tomy tommy thompson of los angeles california who with his plane and is has been flying at the garfield county fair and who made an appearance pe arance the second day of the fair here attempted to make a night flight to kanab and return brin bringing 9 with him mrs from that city the phone call stating that the young son of mr and mrs was dangerously ill in salt lake city the flight from richfield Rich d to danaj was made without mishap hut but upon leaving kanab about 9 at night the aviator tailed failed to see a ditch which the plane hit completely demolishing the landing gear of the machine crippled and flying very low the plane arrived in richfield about 10 aviator thompson had discovered that the landing gear was dangling from beneath tile the plane ju in such a manner that to make the asua usua usual I 1 landing would kill all occupants so coming as close to earth as possible lie he forced the machine to side slip and hit the ground on its side in doing this one wing ining was completely torn away anay the propeller snapped and several bad tears along the completed the damage done to the plane however no one was hurt badly mr ir thompson suffering the loss of one tooth mr and mrs returned to salt lake by auto the same evening the crippled machine was taken to hansen bros mills where the necessary repairs are being made mr thompson is in salt lake at pr ebent hurrying up the parts for his machine so as to have it ready for appearance in brigham city during the peach day festival in speaking of the accident aviator thompson remarked that it was his first in nearly five years of flying |
