Show 0 I 1 RICHFIELD HIGH I 1 0 0 fridays assembly last friday the students had a rare treat when the assembly took the form forin of 0 a unique musical program it began with community singing led by mr terry then mr james stevens and his knights of harmony favored us with orchestra at ra selections until applause had bad no avail and they would play no more the orchestra was featuring mr william yi lliam coleman who sang several e vocal we appreciate what our student body officers did tor for us in getting this orchestra to give such an entertainment favant pavant girls entertain last saturday night at the home of miss alta hansen the charter members entertained for their new members miss gertrude beane and miss alton afton bowman the evening was spent in games stories and an informal program miss carlisle read and sadie howarth sang after this a buffet luncheon was served those present besides the guests of honor were alta hansen sadie howarth madge peterson sanoma young june orrock melba ence miss carlisle and their pa partners athletic officials go to salt lake last friday morning mr martin mr smita lmh and mr deal beai lep left jor for salt like lake tor for fhe he athletic athlete t tournament mr martin had to go as a t member of the board of control of the state athletic association but he be says that he took in the tournament incidentally mr abid and mr henderson were also present and officiated at several games the basket ball tournament was a huge success fickess this year iram bin the jhb standpoint of attendance and a high type of playing we are certainly proud of the showing that panguitch made especially since earlier in the season we won a victory frown from them mr ali beai mr smith mr martin mr and mr henderson were all guests at a luncheon given saturday noon mr deal beai and mr smith yere were guests throughout of the athletic association of the state senior speeches given two senior speeches were given give n monday afern afternoon oon in the study period viola ogden spoke on places I 1 would like to visit and her beau descriptions and interesting stories made us want also to visit with her berdean hansen spoke on school spirit as connected with athletics we belive he was right when he said a schools success depends largely upon the spirit of the town and school pc school hool we will try to profit by his message I 1 mondays assembly monday morning the students of the R H S settled themselves for a class debate between the freshmen and sophomores the question was resolved that the state of utah should limit the rights of suffrage to those citizens over twenty one who can read and write the freshmen took the affirmative side and the sophomores the negative vilda jessen madge gray and joseph hansen were the affirmative team and lo lb von porter reed nielson and ruth hansen their opponents the debate was educational idever clever and snappy while the honorable judges mr baker duane nelson and il lamoin cowley decided the fate of the classes mr george Brim brimhall ball professor of advanced theology at the B Y U gave a speech his speech dealt with people who dig for information and learning and those who pick up little things here and there and who do not try to educate themselves so life will be more pleasant after they get older mr brimhall is here visiting the seminary classes of richfield Richtie ld we are glad to have him with us As mr baker walked down the assembly hall every one held his breath for he was delaying the fatal judgment the decision was two points tor for the affirmative and one for the negative hurrah hurrah for the freshmen clynn thurston the debating manager was in charge of the assembly ag club the ag 11 club students staged another chicken roast last wednesday night at joe nelson fred gramse and mr smith benr ahead and built large bonfires on which chickens and potatoes roasted together hiking followed skinned ankles etc the rho faculty members present were mr terry mr deal beal mr baker mr and mr hansen |
