| Show NORMAL scholarships OF IT OF U 1 state law reduced the number from to survey needed before new appointments can bo be made holders of the normal scholarships of the university of utah in all parts of the state are being notified by that institution of the change in the law made at the last las t session eslo n of the state legislature at that time the number of such scholarships was reduced from to the university Is endeavoring to determine before august first just how many of the present holders desire to continue their work this fall there are more than holders of the scholarships who have not comi plated their courses which may be for either two three or tour four years tho the normal scholarships were orl ori encourage more students to enter the teaching profession and to raise the standards at the present time the standards are much higher and the supply of available teachers better trained so the need is not so imperative now last year the school of education in which the holders must register had an enrollment of collegiate students this is the largest number ever registered in one school at the university siCy and is a larger number of strictly collegiate students than in many colleges in the intermountain country no new appointments can be made either through the county superintendents ten dents or the state school office or by the university until it is determined exactly how many students kG holding scholarships last year desire to return the scholarship is worth 2500 a year toward registration fees it is th the desire of the state officials to use the scholarships tor for worthy students rather than those who could pay the fees |
