| Show I 1 N arv A NTY ROAD mo IN t I 1 11 1 OND ov U L I 1 L U n N R aw V L n 10 1 0 t L I 1 flu k tn P tt OAD IL nu T T ER TWO n win babe auld YLA N M UCH OFT I 1 HE WO K WILL BE DURING THIS IER sul surveying ve ving from froin salina to elsinore Elsi noro will commence tho the state road commission commis ston has awarded the contract for paving one and one half miles south of richfield one and one halt half miles through sali ina and three miles from salina north a total of six miles of hard surface road and construction work will begin before the end 0 of july 1 the county commissioners assembled in regular meeting monday and signed the operation cooperation co agreement covering 2 14 miles of gravel road from redmond to the sanpete county line which is already surveyed so a contract can be let at an early date and for about 22 miles of gravel road under a two stage plan from salina south to elsinore excluding of course the present pavement in richfield which will be located and surveyed immediately and after acquiring the necessary rights of way will be ready tor for starting construction work not later than the coming spring the operation cooperation co agreement for the two stage plan states ex this agreement is intended to and does cover standard gravel surfaced road construction only as a first stage the second stage viz hard surface construction to be undertaken when nhen funds are available avail agle and traffic conditions demand such construction the six miles of pavement and the 2 14 miles of gravel road to the northern county line will be completed before winter and after completion of the gr gravel avel road from salina to elsinore during 1924 the north south highway through sevier county will be confide considerably bably shortened and in good condition for a reasonable amount of traffic until such a time when finances permit and traffic de mands that the gaps between the pavement and the continuation to elsinore well be surfaced also these agreements are a peace treaty signed between the state road commission on one side and the county commissioners and people e of sevier county on the other the long ar ard d rome sometimes times heatedly conducted differences between tile the two factions will continued on page four OF COUNT 1 H 0 AD TO BEGIN continued from page one give way t to 0 actual work and in credit to our county commissioners it can be said that they acted very wisely and to the interest of sevier co county n all the grading draining laying of cu lverts and graveling of the 22 miles that have to wait tor for hard surface at a later date will be done under mederal aid plans that is the county to pay 26 per cent and the federal government 74 per cent of the cost which is estimated at 10 a mile a hotl of of which the county has to pay 57 at that the estimate was intentionally ally made quite high so it is probable that the cost for the county will be less and the first stage being a are preliminary limi to the second when the concrete will be laid the construction will be much cheaper because it will mean only laying the concrete appet on the otherwise finished road for the six miles of pavement to be constructed this year gray and murdock Al a salt lake constructing firm were the low and successful bidders their figures are as follows 15 miles from Rich richfield fiel d south 15 miles through salina 35 3 0 miles from salina to redmond 88 07 60 miles total of this amount the county will have to pay ag per cent equal to about the countes coun tys share for the first stage on the 22 miles will be about a total of figuring that preliminaries and rights of way will cost the county estimating high another the total cost will not exceed leaving another out of aie the raised by the bond issue A assuming s s it m 1 n g the second I 1 stage construction will cost a milo mile or for the 22 miles these will be ample to coyer cover the b countes coun tys ag 26 per cent for the I 1 P paving ing it is intended to hasten the surveying of the 22 miles in order that sevier county teams and men can find a good source of income during the coming winter by hauling sand and gravel to the places where it will be needed tor for graveling the road when the season opens next year |
