Show OUR 0 UR 3 ull LAIN INDUSTRY prom from a general survey of 0 the cultivated acreage in sevier valley it is quite apparent that planting of sugar beets is still our main industry reports from the territory tributary to the elsinore elsynore Els lnore factory of the utah idaho sugar co state that fully acres have been planted in beets this season and that thinning mow cow is in full swing so far no indication of the dreaded blight has been noticed and it looks like the crop will be above the average the price of sugar is pretty well stationery and it at the present time dirae with a slight inclination cli nation to rise which is an advantage to the beet growers tor fo the t e reason that the beet contracts are based on a sliding scale with the profit sharing features for the beet crop of 1922 the growers have already received seven dollars per ton and another bonus payment will be due duea in october and will be not less ess than a dollar per ton so the total price tor for the 1922 crop will be at least eight dollars perhaps even a little better for the past twelve years the average yield of the beet fields was W as twelve tons per acre the agricultural superintendent super of the utah sugar co reports that from the present indications the crop should be above e the average figuring however that it will only be the average the acres will yield tons and figuring that the ton will bring only seven dollars the income from beets in the part of the county from siguard south will be the largest sum realized from any of our agricultural products so we are justified to call the planting of sugar beets our main industry and the far ers did well to put so large a part their acreage into beets there is however one idea forces itself strongly upon the mind of the thinking agriculturist and that is that no farmer should rel rely y entirely upon one phase of agrical pursuit only just now our farmers are making successful strides towards diversified farming fanning by going quite strongly into dairying and poultry raising for both these thes e branches of alarming our climatic and other conditions condl condi tons are adapted excellently and the stronger the farmers will take to it the better for them and for the general conditions in the county if some day incomes dairy products and from poultry raising will run close seconds to t 0 the income from beets sevier valley will be on easy street |
