presiding si ding the forenoon was spent in an officers meeting and new officers were elected and a new constitution conforming to the state stale org organization was adopted the tol lowing officers hanson hansen richfield secie tary treasurer H E ault monroe and james A christensen redmond directors this meeting lasted until the time for the regular meeting 2 and without adjourning adjourns g lor for lunch or a any ay iy other consideration the meeting continued the firby activity for the gathering was community singing led by farmer john hood two now new songs v wore ere learned and considerable enthusiasm cheated H C johansen presided at the piano at the close of this pleasing preliminary farmer john was made an honorary member of 0 the farm bur bureau burau au and official service in sevier county lie he is conversant with stock soil and crop conditions and he is always on the job lie he Is in ill touch with the U A C and his service is at the 11 e command 0 of every benefit derived X P peterson hail had not received any direct benefit and ii he e wanted information leid jones of monroe made a barong plea for the le ie of mr Ho holmstead linstead and stated that farmers get service from the farm denion demon on page four D P jensen heads head s continued from page one just as they ask for it and it is entirely in their hands whether they set get service from the county agent he cited a number of problems where lie he had received direct benefit from mr Ho holmstead linstead by going after the information he needed james A christensen of redmond endorsed mr jones remarks and stated he had received much aid from the county agent E heppler called attention to the fact that mr Ho holmstead linstead had given splendid service and the federal government is paying a large percentage of the cost of maintaining a county agent he believed that the present county agent was the very life blood of the farm bureau he was opposed to any change that would cut oft off the farmer from the help offered by the federal government in solving farm problems george A deal beal asked permission to speak and before he had gone far he came within an ace of 0 causing havoc to the meeting he opposed the retention of a county agent and declared he had never received a particle of benefit from this office incidentally ci he launched an attack on J E heppler the preceding speaker making personal remarks and de the latter resented this and intimated that the speaker aker was not telling the truth tile th e atmosphere became rather torrid and pres jensen saved a most unpleasant situation by prompt action in calling mr air beal to order demanding that personalities be kept out of the discussion and suggesting that an apology was due mr air heppler mr air beal made apology which was accepted by mr air heppler an unfortunate situation passed and the incident closed but tor for the prompt action of pros pres jensen regrettable results would have followed bryce of joseph took the position that if farmers have problems they should seek the help of the cou county ritty agent and a solution would be reached J B morrison was of the same opinion the farmer should seek the county agent to get a solution of his bis problems he was willing to pay his bis share of whatever the expense is in maintaining a farm demonstrator hy thorsen of glenwood told of bervice ej favored the retention of mr ir holmstead who had done much good tor for farms farius in his neighborhood john A parker of joseph told or of the great ben eilts lie he had received from the farm do demonstrator and favored his retention J 11 of cuche cache county state F farm arm barreau organizer org aniser pointed out the need of count county agenas agents in all projects which the local farm bursau bureau 1 s declared for in 1922 chariton chanton told of ills his experience peri ence with county agents in securing aid for tho the dairy interests of sevier county both in utah and other states lie he had bad found all county agents working i to solve the farm problems for the farmer and he was strongly in favor of retaining the county agent chas L dean bean spoke of the salary paid the county agent he understood that the salary was giester gi eater than that paid to any school teacher and that the farm bureau members lad had gone on oil record tor a reduction of teachers salaries pies jensen suggested that this matter of salary was a question for the hoard board of directors rather than for open discussion chris peterson stirred up considerable sid erable feeling when lie he declared that the assemblage lad had a right to know what the salary is and demanded that the information be given he stated that school teachers salaries had been under discussion with a view to reduction of expenses and this agents salary should be known pres jensen then announced that the county agent was paid 1400 by sevier county for expenses of travel and office and a salary of 2300 is paid by the federal and st state ate government ern ment 1 martin fartin jensen of redmond made a motion that the office of county agent of sevier county be supported and this was almost unanimously voted tor for later it was v as made unanimous on the suggestion of pres jensen the tax committee consisting of H C larsen J E heppler william ogden I 1 W P C J H pa pane ne sam jorgensen george A christensen Christens cn and john webb ebb wa wa retained the committee on oil electric light and power rates consisting of D P jensen M C nelson george A christensen R D young james sol was also retained county commissioner george peterson presented the matter of government aid for highways he read a letter from C poulsen asking what funds were available for sevier county to match the government offer kofl er of 74 per cent for road construction st the commissioners met and decided to place this matter before the people they also decided to put the matter before the farm bureau and get an expression as to bonding the county for in money oney to match the federal aid offer the road levy for 1922 will not be accepted the only way to raise the money is by 1 bonding meetings will be held field throughout the county to obtain an ail e expression from the people and this will be conveyed to the state road commission in ill a meeting to be held here at a later date pres D P jensen called attention to a sentiment that is developing in the organization against local merchants and professional men he urged that the sentiment engendered against the white collar men should not be encouraged thanks were extended to bishop hansen of the third ward for the use of the house and to the increased membership and elip enlarged arged attendance there was a splendid attendance of representative farmers from all over the county and these paid to D P jensen a high compliment and worthy tribute in returning him to the presidency for the present year mr air jensen has been in his labors for the farm bureau and the members did a graceful act in recognizing his efficiency he is a conservative man and has broad and liberal views his position as head bead of the county farm bureau insures a sate safe and sane course for the organization the other officials chosen are are of the same type and the farmers displayed rare judgement jud jid gement in the selection of 0 officials for
