Show 0 0 I 1 i RICHFIELD JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL 0 the most baity of time we students of tho the richfield jill junior high school after a definite notice tuesday forenoon january tile the tenth directed ourselves oui selves toward the meadows s bea beyond end the town for a short and enjoyable skating party hay lacks and teams were our means of transportation as horses this time of 0 tile the year are more reliable than automobile engines As we glided along songs were rendered jokes told and many other things discussed meanwhile a stir was made and much confusion oc cured jack frost was being felt he had found a place to experiment for new jokes and tricks with his old repaired machine ho he nipped our ears stung our toes and not having sympathy just res resist ll 11 t the temptation of biting our rema remarkable reable noses however it was of no use to grumble for we knew warmth could not be secured at that time tile the wheel came off one of the wagons for a moment hearts beat fast with fright but when everything was nas found to be alright and no one vas nas hurt sighs of o o o o o were heard soon the ever watching crowd reached the desired place where our most noble generous energetic and active mr hancock at once set to work and started a fire for the freezing little girls to warm themselves by even it if the girls were the first to feel the heat from the burning logs the little boys soon began to flock around for they were all anxious to drive away jack frost the tormentor of the day clay anti and heat was the only thing that would do so now tile the ice upon which we were to skate was almost as wide as the sevier river in places and frozen as hard asit was possible to freeze it there x was as no danger of the ice breaking breakie skates s soon coon occupied the space and fun full and enjoyment predominated some that had never been on oil ice skates before in their lives were learning fast how to use them those who had skates shared with those who everyone tiled to help make tun fun in some way during this time potatoes had been roasted which were nere N ere distributed among us all then after this hearty potato festival we followed the trail to home sweet home near eight in the evening we ve attacked our lessons then the dreams of a well v all earned nights rest in fairyland fairyland not too heavy when lien starting home from the skating party p arty last tuesday night we discovered disco ered that the first taxi had driven off with only halt half of the passengers thus leaving about seventy pupils for one tax or wagon to take care of had it not been tor for our good chaffeur E L hancock halt half of us would have had to walk a mile or two but by talking very nicely to the horses and promising them a good supper chaffeur hancock pulled us all out over the rough frozen ground very easily eastin A small small program was rendered ren derad on the way home A solo was given by mr hancock entitled the dull bull frog in the pool and the full frog on tile the bank miss bliss jennings also gave a n umber number of good selections assisted by a chorus of girls and boys the ride and music enjoyed by all what the moon and antl the junior 11 high agh saw sav the bright january moon smiled down on a crowd of merry skaters gliding in and out on the glittering ice why are they so merry why do they laugh and shout with glee why its because it is the junior high the merriest crowd in town both teachers and students are lay having the time of their lives we are all skating swiftly NY when lien crash the tee ice quivers and shakes like jibe an earthquake we turn around to see 7 miss anderson stretched sti etched out upon the ice A crowd soon gathered around her and mid mirth and jest she is helped to her feet the moon and tile tha junior high both know this story our skating baity why the teachers receive order and attention from us tuesday morning mornings 9 why because we had heard the teachers were to take us on a skating party that afternoon talking and commotion were going ou on in ill rooms and halls about this party parly later the news rame came that we were going at four four eight grade students volunteered to furnish teams and racks to take teachers students and wood down the seventh grades furnished potatoes to roast at four three hayracks harracks hay racks with pupils and teachers left tor for the ice covered meadows A small load of wood led the happy procession along main street and down to the frozen meadows s mr hancock sla skated ted perfectly lovely without skates at least some of the girls thought lie he did when he pulled them around with a shinny stick attick I 1 ahat if ruth did fall down when skating with this splendid skater no harm was nas done to either ruth or the ice fee however ruth cant quite forget the twelve little stars she saw 4 0 the of when the school went on a shat skating party tuesday night jasmine parry wore oxfords to skate in she I 1 found however that she could not hold her ankles firm with the ox fords on our young hero bero keith peterson Pc lerson went down there lut but did not bring skates with him jasmine wanted to trade shoes with him so that she could skate and with a few smiles and a little coaxing site she finally succeeded in wearing his shoes keith went home and left her with his big st she returned his to him the next jay at school but ho he still ila has her slippers lot our highly esteemed student body president was lost on thursday january twelfth he may be recognized by the following description ile he is students that are failing in their school work will belong to this class they will have lave two weeks in ill which they will have a chance to improve if they improved by this time they will belong to this class for two weeks more then it they still fail to show any improvement they will be retained in the after school class it is up to tho the students of the junior high to improve in their school work all eight two section was very disappointed wednesday when our athletic manager mayo bowman resigned his position the he following afternoon the student body officers elected glen thorsen to till fill the place left vacant glen has already arranged a g game ame with monroe tor for the following friday night our oni oin taman serial the junior high is very interested in a play which is being practiced on oil the school ground this is tarzan of tile the apes with which nearly everyone is familiar it is very amus ng to see the genuine ine apos apes hangin ins ing from the trees and swinging aiom limb to limb about the only difficulty the players find is getting enough trees to make it look like a forest of course we have several but they are rather small and there is much danger of 0 their being ruined another thing that is needed is the ocean but some of the boys propose flooding the fountain over and making a small smail pool of water which will serve the she purpose splendidly we all look forward with enthusiasm 1 ast to the day dav when the play will be pulled off tarzan and his apes who are none other than our dear old junior high chaps have a different idea of the play but then you know boys always have peculiar ideas of things they say they are only playing it for much the same reason that we play fox and geese however when the they get all practiced up wo we will have a wonderful show for you all |
