Show OUT r n LEAH compiled by the V U S G geological color ial survey the value of the gold god silver copper per and lead produced from mines in in utah in 1921 according to V C heikes of the united states geological survey department of the interior was about a decrease from in 1920 the output of all metals was decidedly less than that of 1920 and the output ot of copper was less than one third chrit ot of 1920 the mine production of 0 gold decreased from in 1920 to about CO J Tf produced fro from M copper ore was decidedly less and the producers of siliceous ores containing gold and silver suffered from excessive costs and smelter restrictions at bingham and park city the production of gold decreased slightly but in the tintic gintic district the decrease was marked as s several everal large producers were idle for months the united states mining lining IN co at bingham greatly increased its output of gold from le lead ad and copper p r ore and its mine produced more than twice as much gold as any other mine in utah second in gold pro luceion was the deer trail mine at marysvale Marys vale which also biad h ad a considerably increased output gold in qua quantity nifty was also produced by the utah copper chief consolidated engle eagle blue bell and tintie gintic standard mines the mine output of silver decreased from ounces in 1920 to about ounces in 1921 the decrease in silver was especially noticeable at bingham park city and ophir the output from the district however was more than upheld principally through the efforts of the chief consolidated and standard companies the chief consolidated mine at eureka continued to be the largest producer of silver in the state and the standard followed closely other continued on page eight METAL OUTPUT continued from page I 1 mines that produced more than ounces of silver were the united states mining alining co at dingham bingham in box elder county the judge and ontario mines at park city and the eagle blue bell at eureka one of tile the interesting features of the year was the la large rge production of silver ore from the park utah mine east cast of ontario at park city the milling co at silver city continued to treat custom ores by a roast followed by leaching and the tintic gintic standard co in the eastern section of the district op operated rated its new mill using the same process the deer trail mine in plute county increased its production of sliver silver and shipments of silver concentrates from the mine in box elder county adre we re al af so much greater the mine production of copper decreased from as pounds in 1920 to about pounds in 1921 and the value decreased from to about the utah copper co which produces most of the copper of the state adi wa s closed in april after producing abdill pounds of copper during tin the first three months the utah consolidated mine at bingham 1 was as closed in march the average price of copper was 1 15 ga G I 1 cents a poun pound d in output from trie the park cit city and bingham di was decidedly less the closing of the lead smelter at international in tuly july seriously affected shipments from ophir park city and lamaka Bir alca the mina output of recoverable zinc in 1901 was 39 pounds but market conditions prevented shipments of zinc ore or concentrate in 1921 it was not profitable to ship zinc ore are to eastern plants on account oi of tite tim high freight rates and decreased price of the metal the electrolytic plant of the judge mining and smelting smelling Sm elting co at park city was closed in november 1920 and zinc concentrates from the judge mill were stored financial biffl cuttles prevented the operation ow the utah zinc co s zinc zina oxide plant near murray and at midvale zinc zin c concentrates from bingham ore and old fai tailings rings were stored awaiting a better market in 1921 the mines in utah produced about tons of ore a decrease from tons in fix 1520 of this tais total the bingtaw district produced about tons as compared with toos tons in 1920 the estimated pr production of the district was ounces of sold gold ounces of sliver silver 38 pounds of copper and 24 pounds bf of lead
