Show OFFICIALS ADVISE HIGHER I 1 N OUR SCHOOLS largo number Vulli seeking to enter To coaching aching profession warrant all af t hi HiR lioi standards alss t t Jennin jennings gb for ary supervisor miss loraetta Lo reetta jennings well known as one of deviers Se viers most successful teachers has been appointed primary supervisor 0 of sevier district mibs jennings has taught in the schools of this county for tho the past ten years she has served in practically every grade as well as being principal of the central school and later principal cipal of the monroe grade school wherever miss jennings has taught she has been a most popular instructor and has commanded the confidence and respect of the communities muni ties where she has worked her appointment as primary supervisor is a well earned promotion and will doubtless meet with the favor of all who know her she has spent the past month in studying and observing methods and materials in the salt lake city schools and will study the remainder of the summer at the university of california at the meeting of the school board last saturday routine matters occupied most of the time of the members the matter of purchasing lockers for the high schools was left over until a full quorum is present the superintendent was authorized to have registration and term report cards and excuse slips printed for the three high schools as well as the term cards tor for the grades two resignations sig nations of teachers one from the aurora school and one from sigurd were accepted the board adjourned to june supt bupt ashman has returned from a business and pleasure trip to salt lake and provo while in salt lake he and miss jennings selected a complete supplementary reading course for the primary grades among the selections are some of the newest ideas in primary reading including an interesting project reader for each primary grade as well a sa choice variety of story material suitable to the younger children mr ashman reports a generous supply of teachers at the B Y U and university i of utah still unemployed many ot of the one ear at each institution are planning on returning to school next year and completing the two year normal course mr ashman suggests as a possible standard for sevier schools in 1921 1923 the employment of only teachers with experience of two years of professional work from hiie the number of this year 20 0 at the university and at the B D Y U and the maintenance of a good salary schedule it would seem en ell possible to take this long step in advance an interesting fact in connection the supply of teachers is the information that supt bupt ashman received this year applications for teaching positions in sevier only 38 S of these were from teachers who lacked the cred credentials for a certificate of course many of these teachers also applied in other districts the B Y U training school reports one of their trainers as applying in nineteen different districts most teachers do not apply in more than two or three places many teachers teacher apply in only one place |
