commissioners ners and leading citizens of five counties assembled in richfield friday evening tor for the discussion of toad road matters with a view to obtaining a part of the federal aid money appropriated recently by congressional enactment that a highway r traversing the state from north to south leading from nephi over san acte e sevier plute garfield and tt kane aa counties to the southern end of the state between kanab and fredonia be designated as primary road the counties named and also wayne county will select committees consisting of the county commissioners and at least two representatives each from all city and town boards and aird commercial organizations in said counties these committees to go jointly to salt lake city for a conference Ie rence anith mi chief engineer bynch of the forest department and with the state road commission to impress upon them mbeni the wishes of the people in these counties the committees are instructed to do their utmost to have the highway so laid out designated as primary road and only if thoy they see that their suggestion is not accepted by the engineer and the I 1 commission that they propose a primary I 1 road from nephi through san pete and sevier counties and then over the he sevier cove fort road to millard billiard and beaver counties connecting with the arrowhead trail banquet at ati johnston hotel the engineer regarding the way in which the money appropriated will be spent in road building it is the intention to designate primary roads through the state from north to south and from east to west and to construct construe t those primary roads first subordinated to the primary will wil I 1 then be the secondary roads if we succeed in getting the road from zephi to the south designated as primary road it would increase the chances of getting the federal aid in the propof proposition tion of 7 75 5 to SO per cent to 25 or 20 per cent of county money the federal government will survey lay out and build the road and the eUli counties ties have to assume the obligations to furnish their small percentage of money and to maintain the roads after they are built A licely ion to direct the lake city nephi fountain green manti richfield marysvale Marys vale panguitch and kaibab kanab to the state line between ka nab utah and fredonia arizona designated as a primary road and to select committees who should go jointly to salt lake city to impress upon ripon the federal engineer and the state road commission that this is the sense of the meeting mr bentley of the manti mant motor car co called attention to the fact that the authorities probably will designate as primary roads only such highways which properly connect with whit a main thoroughfare in the adjoining state and might find it not feasible to do so by way of kanab fredonia for this reason lie he wished the motion amended to the effect that if the committees should not succeed in having this route designated as primary road to propose the alternative from nephi to richfield and then through clear creek canyon connecting with the arrowhead trail A long discussion ensued participated in mostly by bentley
