Show 0 I 1 A COLLEGE wo OPENS graduates earl good salaries in positions A all over northern states the people of utah have maintained from the earliest pioneer lays days an interest in ili education which distinguishes them among the people of the world this interest has not been in the fads and fancies of education but has demanded moral and spiritual qualities first and mental usefulness second no saner sentiment exists on earth than this the utah agricultural college has grown along these lines for thirty years con concentrating can its efforts on an the problems of the farm tile the home the shop the business office and the sciences and arts which underlie industry and agriculture ri and home making the last few years have witnessed essed the fruition of many years of effort attendance at the college has increased by leaps and bounds the great extension work has grown so that the farmers and housekeepers now havo have agents of the college in most sections of the state living in the counties and constantly working vor king in tho the interest of the farms and homes the experiment station is finding its work tork constantly more helpful to the farmers the farm bureaus have become powerful conservative serva er tive factors in the development of farm life agriculture has gone forward with nith rapid strides luring during recent years with the result today that nowhere are finer opportunities than in utah in certain localities a very superior agriculture exists with earnings comparable to the most favored localities in america tile the utah agricultural college at the end of its first normal year since the war finds as never before an interest in homo home economics in trades and industries in commerce in agricultural engineering and industrial science which taxes the institution to the utmost last year the increase in regular students demanding training was 29 per cent over the last prewar pro pre war 1916 17 enrollment grollment roll roll ment in regular classes in ill according to the registrar reached the remarkable number of 2305 this does not include special extension work in various lines of agriculture and home economics the total registration in study groups in extension work during the year was 25 of these were women an and 1820 were younger boys and girls these figures for extension work of course should not be understood as representing in all cases separate arate individuals extension students frequently register in ill two or more groups these figures represent those registered for organized study many additional thousands are reached iu in other activities through meetings personal visits and correspondence tho the college welcomes suggestions from on acry cry source looking lookin g toward the strengthening of its work in the interest of the state the discontent which is sweeping the world need find no dangerous expression here if wo we can call keep heep our farms in the hands of our stronger citizenship and so regulate this basic industry that the farmers prosper build better homes upon these firms farms from year to year and tho the most important measure will havo have been taken to keep keel our state sound and strong more afore aid must be brought to the farmer the marketing problem must be solved roads and schools must be a maintained and other important steps must bo be taken to ito increase tho the prosperity of those who produce here is the beginning and the end of our social and national problems in no other way can call we fortify our people against the calamities which today so oppress the world i tho the collego opens its fall work A londay day september 13 1920 logan citizens aro arc throwing open their homos homes and sufficient accommodations will bo be available for tho the very large larg enrollment anticipated the opportunities tuni ties for tho the trained young men and women nomen of utah are magnificent A letter just rec received elved states that forty positions in a neighboring state with excellent salaries aro are seeking applicants from tho the U A C graduates are in every one of the eleven cloven western states getting salaries from 1200 to a year our own state needs hund hundreds rods more than are now aTall ablo now of oc all times is abo day when tile the strong and dean clean young manhood and womanhood oc utah can assume leal ical leadership of the west in the great era which is immediately modia tely ahead of us in addition to high school graduates who enter entel the regular collegiate colle glato work of 0 tho the in institution tho the college welcomes those of mature years IS 18 years oc ago age or older into tho the many vocational courses which are prepared for foe them no matter whether ahey they bave high school training |
