Show convention OF AMERICAN MINING CONGRESS plans are rapidly maturing tor for a notable gathering in denver of representative mine operators government and state officials financiers lumber men and leading exponents of industrial readjustment at the twenty third annual convention ot of the american mining congress to he be held at the albany hotel during the week of november 15 in III addition to a program of national speakers a series of important conferences have been arranged for the various group bodies interested n the solution of present day problems I in the coal metal and petroleum industries and as a result of buch auch deliberations resolutions will be adopted and bills framed to he be presented to congress imperatively urging needed legislation an invitation has been extended to the gold producers and bankers of the united states to meet in a three days conference to consider ways and means of preventing further depletion of the gold reserve and the petroleum and coal men both anthracite th and bituminous have been incited to meet together to propose certain measures looking toward the conservation of the fuel and power supplies of the country such organizations as the national coal as of which col daniel B wentz is president and the american petroleum institute have been invited to participate in working out the practical sug suggestions gest ions and plans submitted A feature unique in the history of mining will be a standardization conference to initiate a national propaganda for the standardizing of mining practice and mining equipment such as safety codes methods of accounting sanitary appliances life and labor saving devices etc the invitations to this conference bear the signatures of col warren R roberts eia of chicago and charles A of arizona both eminent engineers and richard A parker chairman of the mining bureau of the denver civic and commercial association cia tion and H IF lunt state commissioner of mines tor for colorado col roberts was in charge of the standardization ardiz atlon of war munitions in fit washington during the war mr is a leader in standardization movements in metal production and mr parker for ninny many years the manager ot of a group of gold producing mines in africa was the first to standardize mining under european management important sessions of the war minerals conference will deal with the claims of those who have been i ic e fused relief by the federal commission appointed under the war v ar minerals relief act several hundred liters ot oc oil potation in the reco recovery verv of 0 metals have been invited to meet and talk over their troubles under this division there will be discussions of the commercial and legal phases of the contest over patent ownerships i including the merits of lawsuits involving more than two billion dol lars in this connection a report wll be road setting forth the activities of the th american mining congress and the federal trade board which have led to the inquiry now being made into the practices ot of the trust which purports to control every oil flotation process extant representatives from the schools of mines and technical institutes throughout the country have been requested to take part in a separate conference confer enre called by the schools ot of mines unction ot of the american mining zon congress gress other subjects to come before the convention include the revision 0 of state and national mining laws state tax employers liability and the so tailed called blue sky shy laws and the substitution ution for the present cumbersome and ineffective tax law of a new provision nov being formulated by a nat national onal committee made up tip of members ers from the american mining congress ress national coal association american petroleum institute national industrial conference and affiliated filia ted organizations leading tax experts of the country have been especially invited to attend these sessions in conjunction with the convention an exposition consisting of educational and scientific features will be given |
