Show STOCKMEN AND FOREST SERVICE HOLD MEETING district forester L P F kneipp and assistant district forester C N woods in charge of grazing in the ogden office arrived hero here lust last thurs day night to confer with representatives of the stockmen stoc kmen using the fillmore national forest at a meeting held the next morning attended by district forest inspector raphael deputy forest supervisor woodbury and all the rangers Aless rs kneipp and woods outlined to the stockmen stoc kmen assembled the national necessity for handling tho the national forests in such a way that overgrazed over grazed ranges such as are found on the fill more will recuperate and produce greatly increased forage crops the underlying principles of range management were pointed out and it w ans as shown that mr raphael was only carrying out tho the instruction of tho the secretary of agriculture as passed on through the forester and district forester when trying to apply them it was further shown that these principles of range management were not local hut but had been built up by the combined effort of the entire department of agriculture some of the principles having been drawn from the experiences of european countries mr air kneipp stated that the strength of the forest service lay in the past application of these fundamental principles of range management and that in other places many of those who originally objected to these principles aree are now w our strongest supporters I 1 after the general meeting the inthe stockmen stoc kmen for this year only al advisory boards of the different stock associations took up separately local problems relating to the particular range involved assuming that this is an abnormal year and that the shortage of stock feed in all sections around the forest was an emergency the district officers granted some concessions to lowing many of them to turn some stock out right away thus alleviating their feeding conditions many i ol of the stockmen stoc kmen expressed themselves as feeling very well satisfied tho the results of 0 the meeting and felt that it had been conducive to better harmony between the stock men and the forest service |
