Show N, S. Wins 2 First Places On Snow Senior Day , Two students of North Sanpete i high school succeeded in winning first places in the competitive features fea-tures of the anual Senior Day held t Snow College Friday, May 2. Vernon Christensen made first in seniors reading contest and Eugene Peterso in the creative competition. Eight high schools, North Sanpete, Richfield, Gunnison, Manti, Eph-raim, Eph-raim, Moroni, North Sanpete and Wasatch pariticipated in the days activities. Outstanding features of the day i were a program at 10:30 a. m. in : the Snow College auditorium, made up largely of contestant numbers ir. vocal solos, serious readings, hu-'; hu-'; morous readings and extemporan-, extemporan-, 1 eous speaking. Immediately after the program the visiting seniors "i (there were -about one hundred sev-j sev-j enty-five) together with the college col-lege students and faculty were served a delicious luncheon. The College Orchestra furnished a splen did musical during the luncheon hour. At one-thirty the First Grade Band gave a half hour's concert. con-cert. In the afternoon the guests eith-erp eith-erp articipated in or witnessed athletic ath-letic games and events. The English Eng-lish contests were also held. The dance in the evening concluded con-cluded the days crowded program. Approximately four hundred people Participated. The contests and contestsants are as follows: Vocal solo, Drews Anderson, Ephraim; Eph-raim; vocal solo, Magdalene C. All- red, Moroni high; serious reading. Vernon Christensen, North Sau-Wte; Sau-Wte; humorous reading, Erva Anderson, An-derson, Ephraim high; extemorpnn-mus extemorpnn-mus speaking, Kenneth Peterson Manti; creative composition, Eugc-n-2 Peterson, North Sanpete; diagnostic grammar, Duane Anderson, North Sevier; literature recognition, Nora Rust Manti; tennis (doubles.. Jensen Jen-sen and Draper, Moroni; tennis, (singles) Mel Bird, Richfield; horse-shoe, Howard and Poulsen of North Sevier. Professor F. j. Fjelstead gave a Quarters free instruction to each of we solo winners. The contestants m the English and speech department depart-ment were awarded volumes of poetry, po-etry, essays and short story. H c. Snell of the Education Department, De-partment, was chairman of the seneral committee, L. A. Phillips, "elen Nelson and Wm. G. Barton ere members. Vernon Davies, student stu-dent body president and J. S. Chris-"nsen Chris-"nsen headed the Reception com-'tee; com-'tee; coach I W. Young and H. christensen supervised the gam- and amusements and Mrs. Emma ? Sorenson was chairman of the Kefreshmenf Committee. |
