Show Big Gang Merger Mergers have loomed large in the news of the day for quite a while. A few days ago a new combination of unusual interest was effected in Chicago, according 'to the Associated Press, which said: "The amalgamation of the Cap-one Cap-one and Moran factions, hertofore at odds with each other over liquor, gambling and the vice traffic, has the reported purpose of ending th& gang gunnery which has been responsible re-sponsible for hundreds of deaths in recent years, and the coordination if all major gang enterprises for the purpose of increased power and profits." For several years rival groups of gangsters in Chicago have fought each other for the rich money rewards re-wards of organized crime. This 3;ang warfare has been carried on with almost unbelievable savagery, with shootings, bombings, sluggings and every form of violence. Seven members of the Moran gang were slain with sawed-off shot guns ,and machine guns in a garage in broad daylight on February 14, 1929. The total number of gang killings will never be known. Now, according to the report, the two most powerful gangs have effected a merger to bootleg, rob and racketeer in concert, reserving reserv-ing their bullets for such law officials offi-cials and citizens as may interfere with their program. The new arrangement may mean greater comfort and profit for the bandits, but it does not. promise prom-ise much advantage for the general public. It is not likely, however, that the truce will continue very-long. very-long. Gunmen will be gunmen. |
