Show ! SPRING CITY i By Special Correspondence The priests quorum of the Spring City ward presented a three act comedy at the Victory j Theatre Saturday evening. The ' proceeds are to help pay for repairing re-pairing the ceiling on the stage of the theatre. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Williams and family of Murray visited a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John T. Blain. Mr. and Mrs. Samford Allred and children of Salt Lake City motored here to spend Sunday and Monday with relatives. Mrs. Mina Carlsen had as her guests Sunday Mrs. Newton and daughter, Anna, Delene Carlson and Mr. and Mrs. Eskel Carlson of Eureka. Miss Erma Nunley entertained a few girl friends Friday evening at her home, the occasion being her 19th birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hansen of Logan visited with Mr. and Mrs. James R. Watson and other relatives rela-tives last week. Mr. and Mrs. James Sorensen of Pocatella, Idaho are here visiting relatives. Frantz Madsen, James Jensen and Boyd Allred left Tuesday for the Livestock Company. Mrs. Stina Allred was hostess ai. a dinner Thursday, February lb, the occasion being her 78th birthday birth-day anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Marian Cloward of Aurora came to be with her mother on that Say Mrs. Cloyd Blain gave a dinner Monday evening in honor of her father, Mr. Jens J. Sorensen's 80th birthday anniversary. The following guests were present: Mr. and Mrs. James Sorensen cf Poca tella, Idaho, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rasmussen, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Sorensen, Mr. and Mi's. Otto J. Sorensen, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Thompsen, Mr. Andrew Thompsen Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Jensen, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schofield, Mrs. Josephine ChrTstensen, Mr. and Mrs. Cloyd Blain, Miss lone Blain and the guest of honor. Mr. Sorensen came to , this country about 50 years ago and has been presiding over the Scandinavian Scan-dinavian organization here for many years. He has been engaged engag-ed in mining and fanning and he belongs to the high priests quorum quor-um of the Spring City ward. Mr. and Mrs. David Wilde and children and Mrs. Elzora Weber and daughter, Beverly, of Salt Lake City are here visiting with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. D. Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Christian Mickel-sen Mickel-sen visited in Salt Lake City last week. Evan Mortensen and family of Murray are visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Marinus Morten-re Morten-re n James Covert and family, who have been living at Sandy for a number of years, have returned to Spring City. Mr. and Mrs. William Green-haugh Green-haugh of Nephi visited for a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Albert Puzey. Mr. and Mrs. Osmer H. Beck announce the arrival of a baby-girl baby-girl February 7th. Funeral services were held in the Spring City ward chapel Monday at 12 o'clock for Effie Candland Christensen who died in a Salt Lake hospital Saturday from pneumonia. Bishop James F. Ellis presided. The music was by the ward choir under the direction di-rection of Ernest Terry with a special solo by Mrs. Bagnall of Chester. Tr.e speakers were Elder Christensen of Chester, Nephi Bates of Richfield, John Peterson, Joseph G. Schofield and Bishop Ellis. The prayers were offered by Christian Sorensen and F. C. Sorensen. Interment was in the Spring City cemetery where Mr. Christensen dedicated the grave. Effle C. Christensen was bom in Chester May 20, 1901. She is survived sur-vived by her husband, Merton Christensen, and two small sons, Eugene M. and Lamont Christensen Christen-sen of Salt Lake City; three brothers and two sisters, Leland Candland, Salt Lake City; Maiben and Kenneth Candland, Chester; Mrs. Flora Cloward, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Mabel Ca Ulster, Grant -sville; and by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Candland of Chester. The sympathy of the Spring City people go out to the young husband and children and parents par-ents of Mrs. Christensen. A Washington Bi-centennial celebration was held in the Victory Vic-tory hall Monday at 2 p. m. with Mayor William Lee Allred in charge. The school band, dressed in red and white, played several j selections under the direction of Ernest Terry. A reading, "Boy-jhood "Boy-jhood Life of Washington" was ; given by Maurine Larsen and j "His Military Life" by Janice Jus-tesen, Jus-tesen, hoth junior high school students. The 6th grade children I sang "Mount Vernon Bells." "Tho Making of the First Flag by Betsy Ross" was presented by Ardith Ellis, El-lis, Vcnoy Osborne and MacKay Anderson. A quartette, "Flag Without a Stain" was sung by I Ernest Terry, Bishop Ellis, Frank Hansen and H. L. Acord Jr. A one act play, "Frontier Life" was . sriven by high school students. A . colonial dance was given by Mary Jane Aiken, Mrs. Ruth Allred, , Mrs. Ariba Madsen, Mrs. Helena Bunnell, Marinda Eillington, Em-i Em-i ma Jensen, Darcus Blain and Mrs . Olga Black. A one act play "The Return of George and Martha Washington" was given by Bayron Ericksen and Norma Sorensen. "America" was sung by the audience. audi-ence. A grand ball in the evening ended the celebration. |
