Show HOME COMFORTS AND CONVENIENCES The advancement that has taken place during the past fifty years has affected everything about us. But nowhere has the transformation transforma-tion been greater, than in the A-merican A-merican home. A comparison of our modern homes here in town with the homes of fifty years ago yes, even twenty-five years ago, causes one to wonder where our parents md grandparents found any comfort in their homes. Today, we enjoy those many comforts that have been given us through the discovery and development devel-opment of electricity. We enjoy complete protection from the cold through insulation and modern heating systems. We have been able to take the hours of drudgery out of the lives of our housewives through the development of mechanical me-chanical devices which have become be-come indispensable to the modern home. Indeed, there is a tremendous tremen-dous change in the home of today, hot and cold running water, hard-Wood hard-Wood floors, cedar lined linen closets, breakfast nooks, tasteful pictures and hangings, color every where. Contrast our modern interiors in-teriors with the gingerbread work and curios and nicknacks the family fam-ily of yesteryear had to cherish I with a feather duster. The al- bums and queer things under glass and mantel ornaments that were suposed to give an aesthetic air to the home. In . those days there were certain rooms which must not be entered at all except, on state occasions. The doors were kept locked and the curtains ( drawn so the light would not fade carpets ' and wallpaper. Every) spring and fall a general house ( cleaning of several days duration was necessary, causing a semi-annual upheaval dreaded by all. ! What- a difference in the un- cluttered, cheerful, lired-in homes of today. The dank museum that was known as the front parlor has been entirely banished. The big dining room with its massive furniture and . plate racks , and portraits of fish and fowl has gone with it. In many homes the spare bedroom as been dispensed with, for there are now wall beds and day beds, and davenports that can be made ready in a moment for the occasional guest. , The modern' living room is all that the name implies. It is the gathering place of the family. In it vou will find books music and 11 VOU Will X1I1U. Wvwae ' games, and the most comfortable furniture. It is the very heart. of the home. ' ' Money that was once spent for unused rooms and uneeded furniture furni-ture is now invested in features that add livablenes to the home. Home is the place to come when we are tired. It should be a place of such peaceand comfort that all worldly cares are forgotten with in its wals. It shouldbe a haven of the spirit, the place where the sweetest memories of life ar formed. form-ed. A placeso dear, so worth while that our young folks growing up and going out to make homes ol their own, will want to bring to their new horns the spirit that per- vaded the old. t ' Are you giving your children that kind of a homef Are you teaching lihem quality of discrimi-. nation they learn so easily in home . environment that is right! Thej appreciation of good pictures, the ( best in music, the care of nice things, all the little niceties of mod ern life! , If your home is not up to modern mod-ern standards, then it should be your ideal to make it so. The study "of home furnishing and decoration is fascinating, and the rewards of its application are many." More comfort and beauty in" our daily lives, and in addition, the pride of having done something to make the world a better place to live in. |
