Show Civic Betterment league Articles of Agreement Having in mind the utter disregard dis-regard for law and order that prevails among our citizens with open violation cf the same by manv; believing that all laws should be observed by every citizen citi-zen until such laws as may tA considered unjust be changed by-proper by-proper proceedings of a democratic democrat-ic government; recognizing the fact that the proress of civilization in a human society is dependent on submission to the will of the majority; we organize and pledge ourselves to the following program pro-gram of activity 1. As individuals to observe the laws regardless of our personal convenience. 1A To emphasize the enforcement enforce-ment of the Prohibition and Juvenile Ju-venile Delinquency Laws and attitude that enforcement of those laws or any law on the statute books is an infringement on so-called, so-called, personal liberty. There can bo no liberty or freedom except ex-cept by common consent and co-cpeiation co-cpeiation of individuals making up a community, whether great Of i'.ll!.l. 2. To give our loyal and unconditional un-conditional support to the officers who are active in enforcing the law, standing for principle above personal feelings or interests. 3. Not to use unreasonable, false, or un-American methods to free ourselves from jury service when called, and having accepted to be wary of possible emotional appeals of crafty attorneys to win a casa regardless of justice. 4. To lend our influence and assistance in freeing our commun-. ity of places of infamy and moral turpitude that are so obnoxious and cankerous to human society. 5. For some time citizens of our communities have observed conditions condi-tions growing more lax in law enforcement. en-forcement. People have felt the need of action, but how to proceed pro-ceed was the question. Some suggested that organized effort oi our patriotic citizenry was needed According to this suggestion representatives rep-resentatives from the three communities, com-munities, Mt. Pleasant, Fairvie t.v met and adootec articles of agreement and completed com-pleted a district organization which was to work through organizations or-ganizations fcrmed in each city Each local organizing committee is canvassing the town for members mem-bers and having them sign the pledge to the Articles of Agreement, Agree-ment, all members being ready to rspond to the call when problems prob-lems arise that need united action Citizens whoh ave not been approached ap-proached and desire to allign themselves with this progressive movement should get in touch with the local officers. It is anticipated by the organisation organis-ation that city officials mill welcome wel-come the support given to them through this move; that they will feel more confidence in carrying the law into effect and as a result re-sult the city will be one not only of clean yards and streets, but also of a clean, .wholesome atmosphere atmo-sphere fcr our young growing citizens, who are our sole hope for a better future. The organization at Spring City has been completed for seme time A membership of one hundred seventy-four have signed the pledge and are working on community com-munity problems. Mt. Pleasan' is assured of a membership of 5 hundred and Fairview of two hundred by the end of the week. Further publication will bt' made as the league gets into action. May we all cooperate and lend cur strength for justice and progress. |
