Local publishers and printers can also testify that the government in the envelope en-velope printing business for half a century has robbed them of hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of work which would have materally helped Ihem to better serve their communities This sort of competition on the pa'"t of the government is utterly indefensible, indefen-sible, particularly for the reason that by doing this work at less than cost the deficit must, be made up by the taxpayers, including the printers whoa business is injured by this practice. ! Cii'es -are i-nwn in which post masters drawing large salnries hav j devoted time to personally soliciting this petty business. What local printer "'mid employ a man at a salary of $3fino or 4,000 a year to solicit nnthin;; hut. envelope printing Jobs? Yet that is . i fair sample of the government In business. |
