Show Tax Money Used Carelessly A striking cartoon appears on the front page of the September issue -of the Utah Taxpayer, offic -ial organ of the Utah Taxpayers Association. It is a reproduction of an illustration which appeared recently in the influential Times Picyune of New Orleans as a result re-sult of a visit of the representative of the Utah Taxpayers Association Associa-tion to that city through the invitation in-vitation of axpayers of Louisiana who wished o get first hand information in-formation on how the taxpayers of Utah have set about to control public expenditures. The cartoon shows the taxpayei spending his money for private affairs; also for taxes. The money mon-ey spent for private affairs is usee efficiently. The dollar which goee into the tax hopper is surroundee by politics, waste and inefficiencj and the message of the Utah Ta:; payers Association to their fellows in Louisiana is: "You can sav. money by watching this depart ment of your business." The same issue gives the. comparison com-parison of levies for 1930 and 19: in all the 211 taxing units in Utah It shows that 11 counties have de creased their levies, 14 have in creased them and 4 have mad. no change. 90 cities remainei without change, 36 increased the. levy and 16 decreased. 20 scho-districts scho-districts maintained their las year's' levy, 12 decreased and 8 increased them. -The Taxpaye.. commends and congratulates tlx public officials for this general de crease in levies despite the fact that there is a lowered valuatiCi of approximately $1 0,000,000 taxable property in this state. |
