Show Tenth Annual O gel en Livestock Live-stock Show f anuary 5 to 10 The Tenth Annual Ogden Livestock Show will be held at Ogden, Utah, January 5 to 10, 1929. Plans for the annual exhibition are materializing according to schedule and everything will be in readiness by the opening date. The Tenth Annual Ogden Livestock Show premium list has been distributed to 2,000 livestock breeders throughout the country and prospects are that this years show will for surpass all previous pre-vious Ogden shows in the number of entries and the class and quality of livestock exhibited. There nas been a general increase of about 25 per cent in the amount of money offered for premiums in all classes this year, which with the breed association specials and other prizes which will be given by various individuals and institutions, brings the total amount of premium monies, listed for those who will ex-hibite ex-hibite here, up to approximately $20,-000.00. $20,-000.00. An addition to the show coliseum has just been completed with a capacity of from 200 to 300 head of livestock. This will make it possible for all the breeding classes of the show to be housed under one root ana it will provide pro-vide choice quarters for all departments The Inter-mountain seed show and annual Ogden poultry show will be m connection with the general livestock live-stock program. Both these exhibits will occupy the balconies in each end of the coliseum building. Judges of national and international reputation have been secured to make .he placings at this years show. Among these are J. Charles Yule of Carstaits, Alberta. Canada, who will adjudicate the classes in the shorthorn division. Mr. Yule has judged at many of the ! leading livestock shows on the contin-I contin-I "nt and is recognized as one oi the 'best authorities on beef cattle in America today. His coming here has created a great deal of enthusiasm j among the shorthorn breeders who vo planning on exhibiting at the Tenth Annual Exposition, j Another nationally recognized beef judge who will act at this years Og-d-n Shew is Frank 'J. Smith of Littleton Little-ton Colorado. Mr. Smith is manager ,-f the Knn Cirvl ranch at that place, looted for their outstanding herd of hereford cattle. He has had a great c'.-p.l of judging experience and w;ll make the placings in the Hereford and Aberdeen Angus classes at Ogden. I Mr. H. W. Brettell, head of the animal ani-mal husbandry department ot tne University of Wyoming will judge the pure bred sheep classes and considering his ability and experience should fulfill ful-fill the sheep breeders desires for an outstanding judge in this department. i In view of the fact that the dairy division is one of the most important departments in the Ogden Livestock Show, special attention has been given by the show officials to the judge for these breeds of cattle. j Mr. J. P. Eves of Des Moines, Iowa, one of the best known authorities on dairy type in the country today, has been selected to adjudicate the classes of Holstein, Jersey, and Guernsey cattle. Mr. Eves has judged at a 'number of leading state fairs and livestock shows this year and his placements have met with favor with the breeders in all cases. The Ogden Show recognizes the following breeds of swine in their premium list classification. Duroc Jerseys. Eerkshires. Poland Chinas and Chester Whites. The placings in this department wiill be done by Kenneth Ken-neth C. Ikeler, Dean of the Animal husbandry Department oi tne Utah Agricultural College. Professor Ikeler has been a student of the modern swine types and nas had considerable experience in judging at fairs and livestock shows. Capable judges have likewise been secured to make the awards in the fat classes, which will be larger and of better quality than at any previous Ogden Livestock Show according to those who have visited the feedlots where the prospective entries are being be-ing finished. The entertainment committee is bury arranging a program of amusement amuse-ment for the benefit of those wLo will exhibit and the patrons of the Tenth Annual Ogden Livestock Shew The boxing bouts, stockmen's ball and banquet have been popular events with the show visitors in the pr.st and will this year be put on a larger senle and with added attractions that will make the entertainment program pro-gram extremely enterestmg in every detail. Oeden's spirit of hospitality, which has been an imnortant factor in the show's success, will prevail during the show week and an interesting time is promised all those wno will attend the tenth anniversary exposition, exposi-tion, January 5 to 10, 1929 |
