Show HEAD COACH WILCE IS WELL FORTIFIED Two Former Grid Stars to Aid Him This Fall. The East, the Missouri valley and Middle West will contribute of their football skill, strategy and experience to Ohio State next fall In the personnel person-nel of the revamped varsity coaching staff. Dr. J. YV. Wllee, for nearly twenty years a player and coach, and who tutored three Ohio States elevens to championships and two others as run-ners-up all within the space of five years will again head the cast. He has studied football for years as played from coast to coast. The appointment of Sam Wlllaman, at present head coach at Iowa State, as general assistant to Doctor Wilce Is expected to give the Buckeyes the benefit of the best football of the trans-Mississippi region. Wlllaman, formerly a star player at Ohio State and subsequently a highly successful I coach at Cleveland East Tech, has I been at Iowa State for four seasons. Andrew J. "Swede" Oberlander, I outstanding player on Dartmouth's powerful eleven of last fall, Is expected expect-ed to contribute the best of the eastern east-ern football for the Buckeyes' benefit. Oberlander's appointment as assistant varsity coach was announced several weeks ago. In Willaman and Oberlander Ohio Sttite will have two versatile assistant assist-ant coaches. Both played line as well as backfield positions during their varsity careers. Oberlander was at first a tackle and then a backfield man. Wlllaman began as an end and wound up as a half back. Both were notable forward passers, too. While Willaman will render general assistance, he will devote his special attention to the training of the Buck- 1 M , -XX4 Head Coach Wilce. eye ends. Willaman was a superior wingman himself and his teams invariably in-variably have had fine flankers. Besides his football duties Willaman Willa-man will also fail heir to the directorship director-ship of Intramural athletics. In this department he will succeed Grant P. Ward, resigned. Ohio State has led the country in intramurals for several years, both in the magnitude of its program and In the participation of Its students. Wiilaman's appointment, like that of Oberlander, Is effective July 1. Both men, however, will report about September 1 ready to go to work. |
