Show Pitcher Joe Bush Plans to Become Outfielder Joe Bush, star pitcher of the St. ' Louis Americans, doesn't intend to retire re-tire from the majors when his twirling days are over. No Indeed I Joe plans to spend about five more years in the big show after he loses his ability to mystify the opposing batters. A natural hitter, Bush of late years has given much attention to the batting bat-ting end of the game. He has Improved to such an extent that he Is now regarded re-garded as one of the best pinch hitters In the American league. For several years he has done pinch hitting roles for the Y'ankees aside from pitching. When Miller Huggins needed a right-handed hitter In a pinch, Bush invariably got the call. On the days when It was not his turn to pitch, Bush spent much time chasing fly balls and has become a very proficient fielder. "Joe Wood, a great pitcher in his day. hung on for many years after he was through as n t wirier because he could play the outfield and hit," says Bush, "and I Intend to follow In his footsteps." |
