Show SENATE TO PROBE UMMERGEH NEBRASKA SENATOR CALLS FOR PROBE IN NICKEL PLATE RAILWAY DEAL Road Asks Permission to Issue Large Amount of Trust Certificates In Order to Purchase New Material Washington. Senate investigation of the Nickel Plate railroad merger being negotiated by the Van Swerin-gen Swerin-gen interests is being sought in a resolution offered by Senator Howell How-ell (Rep., Nebraska.) Charging that railroad consolidations consolida-tions already approved by the interstate inter-state commerce commission show it is "unwilling or unable" to protect the public interest, Senator Howell has proposed in a resolution that the senate sen-ate authorize a thorough investigation investiga-tion of the question. In offering his resolution, the Nebraska Ne-braska senator proposed the senate interstate commerce committee be directed di-rected to investigate the Nickel Plate railroad merger and the "consolidations "consolida-tions now being consummated by the Missouri Pacific Railroad company." The latter already have been approved approv-ed by the commerce commission, but the Van Sweringen interests have not yet directly sought the commission's approvel of the Nickel Plate project. The resolution also would direct the senate interstate commerce committee commit-tee to investigate "consolidations now being- consummated by the Missouri Mis-souri Pacific Railroad company" which have been approved by the interstate in-terstate commerce commission. As a step in the purchase of $11,-777,000 $11,-777,000 worth of new equipment, the Missouri Pacific railroad asked interstate inter-state commerce commission approval for an issue of $8,820,000 in equipment equip-ment trust certificates. |
