Anthony federal amendment resolution enacted by the house last January received on the final roll call two votes less than the necessary two-thirds majority. major-ity. Before the vote was announced Senator Sen-ator Jones of New Mexico, chairman of the woman suffrage committee, to comply with parliamentary requirements, require-ments, changed his vote from the affirmative af-firmative to the negative and moved that, the senate reconsider. Chairman Jones and other chain pious of the resolution declared aftei the vote that the defeat is only temporary, tem-porary, and that the contest will he renewed after the November elections, when changes in membership are certain. |
