In his reply Tuesday to the petition of Francisco Villa's generals asking him to resign in favor of Fernando lglesias alderon and thus avoid civil war. General Venus-tiano Venus-tiano Carranza says: "I will gladly take such action if It is ratified by the general conference; if not, I will fight with the same energy en-ergy that 1 employed in combatting the usurpation of Huerta. "I will fight reaction and the old regime which appears now to be hea.ded by Villa who, it may be, is an unwitting tool in this,, as was Orozco in his tight againSL Madero." Oeneral Carranza asks General Villa's Vil-la's chiefs to 'demand retirement of their leader as commander of the northern division of the army in view if the army so votes.' General Villa, who was on his way from Chihuahua City to meet General Obregon and others of the Carranza delegation, expressed optimism as to the happy result of the pending conference con-ference in a telegram received by agents here. Villa telegraphed while en route as follows: "I declare that all is working satisfactorily, satis-factorily, and we hope soon to reacn a patriotic understanding which will assure as-sure peace in the republic." |
