Show MAYOR INVESTIGATES CONDI. TIONS OF TROOP E AT FORT DOUGLAS There has been some misapprehension misapprehen-sion among certain of our people in Mount Pleasant, regarding the treatment treat-ment of the boys of Troop E, who are in mobilization camp at Fort Douglas, and at the request of the City Council to whom certain complaints com-plaints have come, Mayor Rasmussen went to the mobilization camp, Interviewed Inter-viewed the boys from Mount Pleasant Pleas-ant and the officers and the officers of the squadron and he reportB that there has been no attempt on the part of the officers of Troop E, or the officers offi-cers of the squadron to hinder or delay de-lay the discharge of any member of the troop, who has asked for a discharge dis-charge upon proper grounds, neither is there any truth in the rumor that unlawful means were employed to compel members of the Troop to take the Federal Oath against their wishes and there was no coerslon used and the boys who took the Oath, took It voluntarily and any who did not take the Oath, would still be obliged to go to the Border under their former enlistment en-listment oath. The Mayor states that the boys were in good quarters In sanitary camp and had plenty of substantial food and as a pule they were feeling cheerful. There were, of course, a few of them, who expressed a little anxiety as to the going so far from home, but on the whole the boys were feeling good. By reason of the discharges that have been granted and the failure of a number to pass the Physical examination, exam-ination, there are only left In Troop E about 3 0 boys from Mount Pleasant, Pleas-ant, the remaining 40 of the Troop being made up of recruits from other places, notably Utah county. The boys send greetings to their people and friends here and hope there will be no undue concern about their condition. |
