There are. very few houses which io not hire floors that are always CBeaiicg as persons walk over them, guch squeaking Is Terr annoying, and cany different suggestions have been leads to remedy th nuisance, but, cu-Mously cu-Mously enough, only a few of the suggestions sug-gestions hava proven of any real ralaa. ' Vany persons think the squeaking Is caused by the Cooring boards not being be-ing properly nailed, but In most cases this Is not the case at all. The tongues and grooves of the narrow nar-row boards do not always fit togeth-r togeth-r eiactly tight, and a little pressure on either side of the crack and between be-tween Joints, where the boards are called, will cause the boards to spring lightly, causing the disagreeable queaking sounds. The best remedy for a squeaky fioor Is to apply a little liquid glue to the cracks. This can be done by dipping thin strip cf me'al In the glue and Inserting carefully In the crack at the point from which the sound comes. A knife blade can be used to apply ap-ply the glue. Simply dip the point tn the glue and Insert In the crack. Motb the blade about slightly to re-more re-more the glue and make It stick to the flooring, where It will dry In a short time and stop the squeaking. |
