IAC06S Who dares turn his back on wealth and fame And cast his anchor on a foreign land Or leave his humble home the loved the same - As richest mansion or as palace grand To seek his fortune under unknown skies To say farewell to all he holds most dear To leave the scenes of life he doth most prize Who dares do this and more-the PIONEER. Some come at call of conscience, some for gain, Their all in all into a bundle tied Their hearts are strong alike in sun or rain And weary days upon the ocean wide O'er trackless prairie, swelling streams to ford The cry lurking savage in their ears Light hearted they, their strength in the Lord, Those "noble hearted ones, -the PIONEERS. Strong hearts they have and ever willing han 's To help the weaker ones along the way In snowy pass, on burning deseret sands Foot sore they still press onward day by day Full many a one is buried by the trail But Christs love dries the eye His spirit cheers To those who trust His solace cannot fail He blesses guides and helps the PIONEERS. And when the promised land at last they reach A land of milk and honey does'nt seem Not so, sage brush and salty wave dashed beach The stern reality not like the dream -Undaunted they. Their new found home to be A paradise to them in later years God helping them, this land of Inland Sea Would yield them plenteous store, the PIONEERS. They little know the trials for them in store The Lord will have his people tru an tried Sometimes they dine on Segos, nothing more, At length their crops are green, indeed their pride But lo the crickets come and o'er the land Their days of sorrow and of grief appears The sea gulls save their crop, sent by Gods hand A miracle wrought for the- PIONEERS. Their happiness is theirs in very deed And better days are seen as each year grows Earth yields a great abundance from their seed And makes the deseret blossom as the rose To North, to South, to East and West they go In search of homes to crown the coming years New trials greet them now as to and fro They pass but they are strong the Pioneers. The sunny south a home for some .is given Brave hearted men and women gladly choose To come and strive as those be! ore have striven And soon their sage brush fiats assume new hues. Their frigal lives in hard worked days are passed Harrassed by red men, some are days of tears Each years new comforts added till at last Most lovely homes have they those PIONEERS. This land, our homes which all of us enjoy Are ours because of courage and of worth Our father's showed and we should all employ Our time to prove it is the best on earth Our gratitude we bring to them today In Freedom's land. And we do humbly pray May they be with us lon OUR PIONEERS. |
